Default Is the factory alarm good enough?

I'm installing an aftermarket sound system. I'm particularly worried about the big navigation screen that people will be seeing when they look inside my car.

Is the factory alarm system safe enough to protect against theft? I mean it seems that the factory alarm would not go off if someone broke my window or even moved my car.

I'm considering installing a viper alarm system. I had one in my previous vehicle and it prevented probably at least 10 theft attempts!!

factory alarms pretty much do nothing really unless someone opens your door. someone can smash your window, crawl inside and steal what they want without the car going off.

I just found this link that explains how to make a fake stereo cover. I'm thinking of taking my stock radio and making a fake faceplate out of it.

I'll try doing it. If it works I'll post a thread about how to do it.

it sucks unless its stupid people that try to pry your door handle.. dent the crap out of your door.. break you handle.. and then.. dont get anywhere.. so they decide to break your window.. instead of crawling in the grab my stereo.. they try to unlock the door.. then the alarm goes off.. stupid mother EFFERS! sorry just happened to me recently..

factory alarms do nothing more than prevent a thief from driving off with your car and if the thief is dumb enough to open the door rather than break the window...

the 1st thing i do to all of my vehicles is viper/clifford 2way page alarm systems with the extra "force field" accessory that will go off if anyone reaches inside your car

I didn't know it sucked that bad. I just put an aftermarket stereo in my car but I've got dark tint and the factory headunit, so no one has messed with it yet. I'll definitely get an aftermarket one this summer.

Yeah, the stock alarm does almost nothing to protect what's inside your car. It just makes the car harder to steal.

Best bet is to get an alarm with an impact sensor sensor. You can also add on additional sensors such as tilt sensors and motion sensors for further protection. Two-way remotes are also good for instant alarm notification if you're in range of the vehicle.

Viper has some great units. In the past the two-way capability has kept me from having to pay for a few parking lot door dings.

depending how you look at it... tint would attract a thief more b/c it leaves that impression that you're hiding something valuable inside, so an alarm should be on your shopping list! lol

i like the motion sensor with viper/clifford b/c it has the warning on the outside and full alarm if someone gets inside.. i used to make my friends test it and roll the windows down an when they approach it the warning sounds off and then he reached his hand in it set off screaming

Yeah, thats true. I've got everything locked up in my car, and the only thing in my car is my garage opener and, I've got a factory radio so there isn't anything worth stealing unless they get my trunk open...

If i owned a car that is stolen all the time like a Honda i would definitely have GPS tracking. Zoombak is very cheap if you guys are interested in it, It will be an upcoming mod for me but since it isnt as widely know, im getting the LoJack sticker.
