New to the site! Headroom questions?
Hey all, I'm new to the forum, and new to the lexus family, well not even in it yet but am on the lookout in the next year.
My question is, I'm 6'2 and 275lbs, so I'm not a small guy, I have heard that the headroom in the SC's is bad and I cant even test one out because I live way up in Canada and there is not a single SC300 or SC400 around to try out.
How uncomfortable is it? Anyone tall on the site hit their head or whats the deal.
Now I have a 88 mazda rx7 with a small block in it right now so I'm pretty used to small cars but this is also one of the reasons for getting out of this car. My legs hit the steering wheel and with a helmet on, I have to be leaned so far back i can barely reach the wheel and the pedals are so close together its hard to get my whole foot to stomp down on the accelerator lol. I'm looking to upgrade hugely to something with some class, and the idea of swapping a GTE+r154 into an SC is way up on my list cause I cant think of a better swap for the money involved that suits my tastes.
THe problem is, its hard to know before you try. I absolutely loved c5 and c6 vettes until I took one out for the day in Toronto a few months ago and realistically didnt care for it at all. It was not what I expected.
If the SC thing ends up being just too small for me, are the GS300's any different, I also love the VIP look so I'd consider doing a swap on the 98+ models considering they arent that much money to get into.
I know the GS's are heavy too, but my horsepower goals are set to no less then 600hp on a race tune. I would hope for 750 race gas tune eventually and a mild pump gas tune of about 450 so I think even with a heavier car it will still move.
I would hope for whatever I have to run around an 11.50 or so at the track...it dont matter to me if it goes faster because I will never cage whatever I get. I am hoping this is a long term vehicle i can keep and build over a period of at least 5 years so..I'm sure I can make it move.
Let me know your opinions and give me some feedback. I'm not a newbie to racing, and wrenching, and I have spent the last year researching about the types of swaps from 1jz, 1.5jz, 2jzgte(no shiat!)lol, or NA-T, and from my horsepower goals, I'd assume going with the largest displacement 2jzgte is the best way to achieve them and I'd be happy to run a stock bottom end for a year or two until i get things figured out.
Let me know about the room, I have a 2000 solara daily driver, hoping its close to the same size inside cause i fit in that no problem.

honestly, SC's headroom is only really an issue when comparing it to bigger interior cars, like a GS. But thats not a fair comparison either anyways. and the 88 mazda rx7 you had is definitely lower than the SC, so expect a bit more room if you go with an SC than your 7.
as far as your other questions, i'll let the other 'gurus' on the board take a crack at it.

Well I'm 6'1" with long legs. I have to put my seat almost all the way back to sit comfortably, but I can still reach everything without a problem and there's no crowding whatsoever. The only problem is, noone can sit in the back seat behind me because my seat nearly touches the back seat lol. You'll have plenty of comfortable room, but don't expect to be able to use your back seat lol.

I'm 6'3" and I rub my head bad. I have pretty short legs, like a 30" in-seam so all my height is from my ass up. One of the reasons I started working on a sun roof delete panel.
I lean my seat into the gangster position to avoid rubbing, but it sucks. Even more so that my civic hatch has way more head room than the SC.

When I first got the SC I was 6'1 260lbs. I fit great, one of the only coupes that was comfy. I weigh 200lbs now... car still fits me the same...
I did however mod new seats in, now I sit lower. I like it even better now.
