I am think of buying an sc400 with a rebuilt title. The car is in great shape and I am paying 50% of the KBB private party value. Am I crazy?

I think its is fine to buy car that has been in a wreck. I have had very good luck with salvage title cars. But you really need to look at it well before making a decision. It would be a good idea to have a trusted mechanic check it out to look into the frame and make sure the alignment is still right on.
My wife's car has a salvage title. In this case it was a minor accident. It needed a new fender and front bumper. It drives perfect. The insurance guy came and took 2 photos and called us and said it was a "total loss" It has a salvage title and drives perfect. Of course its different for every car. Just be sure to check it out really well before deciding.

Some salvage or rebuilt titles are because the car was stolen and not recovered in a timely manner before the insurance company paid out. Sometimes, like my SC, the car was flooded in fresh water and subsequently restored, thus no frame damage at all. Each salvage car has be be weighed by its own set of circumstances. I had my SC checked out by a Toyota dealer and had them do their 160 point inspection before I bought it. After saving about 40-50% I'm quite pleased with my decision to buy. I haven't had any issues that relate to the salvage aspect of the car yet; knock on wood.

Also while you are there...look at the Cash for Clunkers vehicles. I was under the impression they were getting CRUSHED?

If you're just getting the car for yourself, and everything has checked out as far as straight frame and no water damage/etc. I don't see why not to buy it for alot cheaper.
Just remember that if you do sell it later, with mods done, that it will be a harder sell because of that same salvage title.

I bought it. Here are the pics!
Here are some pics of the car. I already picked it up. It looks like the damage was to the right rear quarter panel, but it was done very well.
Now where do I get a rear spoiler and some none gold badges?

Hold off and Ill sell you mine for a good deal. Im in St. Louis Missouri. Im working out a few minor minor issues. It is a 95' Black on Tan and has 138k miles with $5k in new parts with receipts from the last 2 years including new tranny and steering rack. Kbb is 4500-5000 and Ill sell it for $3500 which is a steal. It is a clean title and Im the third owner. I bought it from a 60 year old lady who bought it in 97 with 29k miles.

You can get it off with a high speed buffer and some cutting compound. It takes some time and patience. You can also use a dremel tool to remove it. I warn you that if you do it, the gold might come back through a little, and it might give it a not so chrome look. Thats what happened to my exhaust tips. It might not do that to yours. I would some ditch the gold ones and get a new set of chrome ones. JMO.
There is also a DIY on here by Scotturnot for removing with a dremel tool.
Thats a nice car, and it looks great!
