4k, that's cheap, pretty good deal. What's wrong with it?

It definitely needs a lot of work. I just trailored it from Miami to Jacksonville, FL this past weekend. I previously owned a 2013 Subaru BRZ.

What originally was suppose to be a valve stem seal (as told by the dealer) turned into a very extensive list. I have pictures of me and my friends breaking everything down and finding things. We even found a screwdriver... I'll post the picture's later in a build thread but the ballpark repair on it was gonna be about 3-4k and that's just to get it running in best possible condition, all labor by us (excluding machinist work).

My friends and I sat and thought about this because I wanted to get the car running before building on it. But that amount is silly if I'm just going to replace the motor in the future. My girlfriend has also volunteered to help, together we're going in on a 2JZgte with a Getrag 6spd tranny and sell the motor as is for cheap.

There is one up for sale on Chicago Craigslist that came up about 8 hours ago. Some issues and higher miles but only 4k. Listed as From Edison Park. Just snuck in from the LS400 forum to bring this news to you all.

Default Only 120??

I knew they were limited, but 120? Is that US or worldwide? How many are still on the road?

I bought mine in late '97, so one year old, with 34,00 miles on it (huge miles in one year).

I had the engine rebuilt at 170K after I overheated it. I am now over 250K, and it still runs great.

I was lusting after a Suburu BRZ, but my wife convinced me to keep the SC. She had a point. I am currently recovering the front seats with the ambition of keeping it running for several more years. Still fun to drive.

120 worldwide. Impossible to tell how many still on the road but one could reasonably guess theres likely less than 100 left..

Default Thanks for the kind words

Thanks guys, the car had tan interior when I picked it up, with the usual snap in the upper door panel, a burn of some sort in the headliner, and no OEM floor mats. I was not a huge fan of the tan in our cars, and my other 1998 SC300 had flawless and complete black interior. After a lot of hesitation and thinking, I finally just jumped into it. Gutted both cars completely and swapped interiors. Took three weekends. The 97 is now not fully "original," but in my opinion is even more rare in a way, and turned out to be a very nice car for someone like me. But it now has the OEM homelink so I can open the garage, and a Celica wheel with IS airbag. It was a much more updated look in my opinion, with the gearbox matching the rest of the interior. I also swapped over some exterior parts from the old car. Here is a picture of the two I took today in the driveway after the weekly wash. In the few years I've been here, I always scrolled through this thread without knowing I'd ever post in it.
