You will need one pack of 220 grit and one pack of 800, for the smoothing. If you decide to put clear ont op of that then get either 1500 or 2000 grit. I would get 2 cans of spray paint with the fog type nozzles. These spray so much better than normal... Mark

Maybe you can use a pair of chanel locks.. I had to wrap mine around the whole wing nut, not just one of the tabs.. Mine were kinda hard to get out as well. Had to ask a friend to get his smaller hands in there to get a good bite on them.. Heck, I would try using a pair of vice grips to cinch down on them. Make sure you are turning the right way, if you are upside down, like I was. Good Luck to you!

I wanted to let everyone know that after I put everything back together, I wanted to change the way the original flat black looked... The part around all 3 vents. I also wanted to fix the cracked looked on the center one.. This seems to be a most normal crack in everyones SC. I should have did this repair before I out everything back together.
When I removed everything out of the car again, I went and picked up some JB weld, and mixed it up 50/50. I used this around the cracked vent parts and a little around the back side of the whole piece. This would insure that it would not crack again and give it more strength. After I let the JB weld dry overnight, I got some 100 grit sandpaper and sanded down the left over and the big parts that stood out. After that, I used 220 grit to sand down the black plastic, and to smooth the cracks out with JB weld, I painted these pieces with High Gloss Fusion paint. The results were fantastic! This is a fantastic permanent fix for those cracked vents, and in perfections. It fills all the cracks, and little small nicks. I am at work, so no pictures, but will post some before and after tomorrow or tonight.
The reason I did this post was to let everyone know how to fix the cracked vents PERMANTELY! JB Weld can be sanded and smoothed.. Again, I am very happy with the results! Hopefully this will help some other SC owners!

No problem man....Your welcome. Just letting everyone know, that my LEDs all came in today for the redo lighting of the interior lights for all of the gauges.. Hopefully they will all fit and light with no problems. Will know more tomorrow. I am still waiting on the needles that I won, and the climate control to get back from Lextech. Will keep everyone posted with some pix!

this is great!!! i had been trying to figure out how exactly this could be done, and how it would look and these pictures just convinced me to do it cuz the results look amazing!! thanks for the datailed info

Your welcome. Since this write up I have completely pulled everything out of the interior again and redone it all for the third time. This time no pictures till the import alliance meet in atlanta. You will have to be there to see it in person.
