to take apart the key do you just take that little screw out and pop it open?

yeah. but be careful, they break pretty easily.

I did this to replace the battery also. You are right with your thinking but do be careful when you are pulling it apart after the screw is out. Just get a tiny screw driver and pry around the border of the key fob. It should pop off eventually. Hope this helps.

I used the term "key fob" in reference to the black plastic piece that has the Lexus "L" on it. It can also be used to describe a key chain.

make sure you pull the cap from the bottom of the key,where the screw is.I suggest using a knife where the metal meets the plasic,so it wont be obvious ,that you pryed the knife in there.

never have any problems with key because it always falls apart anyway lol have to put that screw back in

I actually took my key apart about 3 times in the last couple days to get the battery size and replace it. It has a notch that goes in toward the plastic near the keychain part of the key. Best bet would be to pry it open by the metal key slightly and slide it backward toward the keychain part. Mine was pretty solid though - didn't seem like much of a chance for anything to break unless I would've tried prying it open by the keychain.

Jeembo's description of the key disassembly process is correct. Be sure to use a small phillips screwdriver to avoid damaging the screw or stripping the threads in the key assembly. The replacement battery required for the key that is compatible with 1995 SC's is type BR1216.
