Default Hey turbo guys...

Toyomoto manifold. What's the biggest turbo that will bolt on? I haven't pulled my t04e off of it yet, but I've held up the t72 to it, and it looks like it will *BARELY* fit. I'm wondering if it's gonna hit the shock tower when the engine torques over that way....and crack the manifold.....

Any ideas? Has anyone here put a t72 or t66 on this manifold?

Thanks!!
SR

CompWiz,

I'm pretty sure that the T66 will bolt up to the manifold since its supposed to have the same bolt-pattern as the T04E and 60-1.

I heard that you need a spacer when bolting on a bigger turbo because it does interfere with the shock tower. Lance or Jeff or Scott knows about this. Scott's T60-1 has the same compressor housing as a T66 I believe, just a totally different wheel.

I've found out. It will bolt up, but it till also hit the distributor. Which means that comes off. That means...time to go AEM/Haltech.

I'm gonna sell the old one on eBay. It may need a new cartridge.

I'm also hearing that I can take a 60-1, and put a 70 wheel in it? Does that even sound right?! I thought the 60-1 was a pretty small turbo...

Oh ya...I've only worked with oil-cooled turbos. What if I take a water/oil cooled turbo, and plug the water inlet/outlet, and just use oil? Is that ok? I saw an RX7 like that today.

the toyomoto will accept any t4 flanged turbo... i read somewhere that an adapter plate might need to be used? not sure. they've fit a t72 on a toyomoto manifold, if im correct w/o having to remove the distributor. what would you replace it with? a coil pack system?

I talked to toyomoto and they said I'd have to pull the dirtributor. No way to fit it

Coil packs. They said I could use the coil packs from an IS300 on there, and Haltech. I'm guessing thats the setup they're putting on Jeff's car.

sounds like a plan to me! i thought you were going to ditch the 2JZ setup? im going speedpro on mine, following in ethan's footsteps... lol... id get everything rolling if my damn block would come back from the machine shop!!! if im correct the HKS tubular manifold angles the turbo a bit to clear the distributor... as i think ethans running a SP74 now... ah well ill find out soon enough lol... keep me posted on your car dude!

Default Since you're going to a DIS anyway...

Might as well just get the Supra engine and drop it in. Maybe find a JDM engine and drop the pan the check everything out.

Of course, that brings you around to replacing the exhaust manifold you have with one that fits the TT engine... might as well just get the whole kit with the turbo you want and a fmic... of course the tranny will not be happy with all the newfound power... and you'll have to change out the diff if you go with the 6 speed...

Hold on, doesn't all this put you right back with Plan "A"? No such thing as a simple upgrade, is there
