Default Another 3-spoke steering wheel swap question

I know that the Sc400/300s have single stage airbag. Although 2 stage airbags will fit, the airbag light will turn on.

I'm in a process of swapping a 3 spoke wheel into my 92 SC400.

I have an 2001 IS300 steering wheel without airbag. Since single stage airbags such as the RX300 will fit the IS300 steering wheel, They are very hard to find. If you can find one, they are very expensive.

I'm thinking about another alternative if it's possible and I need someone's help who is expert in this field.

If I buy a 2 stage airbag( such as 2001+ Camry's air bag ), Can I SWAP my airbag from my 92 SC's 4-spoke INTO the Camry's 3 spoke? And install the modified Camry's airbag into the IS300 wheel?

I attached pictures just to clarify a bit.

first pics: 2 stage airbag.
second pic: 2 stage airbag front.
third pic: My SC 1 stage airbag.

I dunno about you guys, but something irks me about a DIY airbag job. Atleast with my level of electronic (in)expertise, I would just go for the racing wheel since I wouldn't trust the airbag to work after my hands have touched it.

hey if those four bolts on the back of the airbag line up with each other's airbag....give it a try! It does sound kinda scary, but you can be one of the 1st to give it a try. But just judging by the pictures, it looks like the 4-spoke wheel airbag looks larger over in size than 3 spoke wheel airbag.

Folks

I don't think just wiring up airbags and "trying it out" is a good thing to do. God forbid an airbag blow while driving. That would be bad.

I would suggest getting an understanding of the mechanics and schematics before attempting a swap.

With that being said, I have a 3 spoke on my SC. I wonder HTF it was wired up as it came with my car when I bought it. Uh oh.

ok guys I will give it a try... in about a week or so... I'm waiting for the parts to be delivered. I'll post some write-up or something.

I have a 2000 celica steering wheel without airbag for sale.

Anyone?

Hey Luxor what part of Az? Few modded SCs here eh?

See... I just figured, I don't have to swap the airbag... Just the module behind the airbag is what I need to swap. I'm crossing my fingers the the module that i have right now on my SC will fit into the Camry's.

Stay tuned!

The airbag module from my 92 SC won't fit into newer models. Mine is twice bigger than the Camry's. Oh and the Camry airbag won't fit into IS300 wheel.

I went onto different route... I still have the IS300 steering wheel and bought a 2001 RAV4 airbag single stage. I was thinking about 01 Celica airbag too, but it has perforated leather and I think it's not going to match my IS wheel. I also like the RAV4's airbag design- and that silver roundel.
I also made the cruise control work.

Since you revive this thread this is the picture of my IS300 wheel and Rav4 airbag combo... and yeah I did a custom job on the L emblem.

Good work man Where did you locate the airbag? Also, do you know which other year Rav 4's it will work on...? Is it just plug and play with the IS300 steering wheel?

Thanks,
Jonny
