I am actually thinking of selling my '94 SC400 and looking for a reasonable asking price. When I first got it a year ago, according to the general market value, I got myself a great deal at 12,500 because the guy was desperate to sell it for money to go on a trip to Thailand. I'm in Alberta, Canada and I've searched for some other listings on autotrader.ca in that area and some I've seen are '95s and selling for approximately $18,000. Does it really hold it's value that well?

I've also checked on the CL classifieds and see that many are going for near under $7,000, how come it is so low? And why are the ones in Alberta (maybe even Canada) so high in price?

I'm sure we have some CL members in Alberta, Canada, if so, what would you be willing to pay for an SC400? I may or may not post on CL depending on the number of local members, since I'm sure that going across the border is a hassle. I know mine has high kilometers, but we all know that isn't a major factor considering the 1UZ. Please think of it as being in excellent condition, since it is owned by a Lexus enthusiast like myself. Any feedback would be appreciated.

And to mods, I hope this post is appropriate. I'm not trying to "test out the waters", I just want feedback on a reasonable asking price and value of it, which may be different from most listing on CL since I'm in Alberta, Canada.

Ive read that they do go for more in canada. I dont know why. I gave $5200 for my 92, and its real clean.

I think 18,000 is way too much to expect in the states. In NorCal, I'm seeing 95 SC400's selling for about 6-8k. Seeing as CAD is almost 1:1 to USD, if what you're saying is true, I'd stick to the Canadian market.

These cars generally sell for a bit more money up here. Don't know why, but they do. The only reasons as to why I can come up with are:

1. Canadian-spec cars came loaded. The only option is the rear spoiler.
2. They are very rare cars in Canada. In alberta and BC its easier to find a Soarer than an SC.

Asking price for my '92 SC400 was $11500, I bought it for $8500 which I thouight was a good deal considering it only had 130000kms and other than the front bumper the car is pretty much mint. I'd say if you car is clean with reasonably low kms, you could ask $10000.

I paid $14,000 for my 93 SC400 with 230,000 km. That was a few years ago and the car was ABSOLUTELY MINT! One owner with all service records (dealership serviced). The leather wasn't even creased at all. Keep in mind that cars sell for more in western Canada than they do in eastern Canada. I'm not sure what your mileage is, but if it isn't too ridiculous, I'd start at around what you paid for it.

i dont feel very bad after hearing what the sc are going for out there .you can buy a decent 92 to 95 around this area for 4500- 6500 . i bought a project car to rebuild it was fire damaged but i have just aboout got it together and i have about 2000. 00 in it so im pretty happy now. more pics soon tom

I think you should expect to get between 5-8K depending on the mileage and the quality of the paint and the interror.
If there is an upcharge for canada, you might get 10K.

They are great cars. Im keeping mine. '97 SC400 w/ 187K miles.

Thanks for all the feedback! I am glad that the value has not dropped very much because Lexus should hold its value well. I do agree with the SC400 being quite rare, I've only seen one other one which was a '92 with red exterior so far.

At the time I got mine with $12,500 and that was only a year ago. Right now it has 236,xxx kms. I think that I would ask for $15,000 which will leave me with enough room for negotiations. What do you guys think?

I'd say the people selling for $7,000 are just a lot more realistic.

greyBLITZ: You also have to take into consideration that a nice Soarer can be found in Alberta for around $10000 with under 125000kms. Best of luck with the sale if you decide to part with your car.

Judging from the feedback it seems that CL classifieds may not be the best place to list my vehicle due to my geographical location.

It does make sense as the population in the US is much greater, yielding higher living standards as well. And I'm sure there were many more sold in the US than Canada.

That is very true, and I do think that the ones for $18,000 are quite high. I certainly wouldn't ask for that much or else I'd never sell it.

However, at the time of my purchase I did notice that the ones in Alberta were listed from about $12,000 to $15,000. Maybe I should take the median value?

When you mention Soarer, do you mean the JDM Toyota versions? I think that they are missing many of the "expensive" features found on Lexus though. I managed to find many RHD Soarers going from $7,000 to $10,000 as you mentioned.

In any case, thank you all for your feedback as it is very much appreciated. I do love this vehicle and I'd hate to let it go, but we must all move forward in life. I am guaranteed to get another Lexus, and I'm dead set on a 2GS (400 rather than 430). Thanks again everyone!

98 SC @134k miles ~ cost me around 9300US but fixing it up after purchasing it. struts, oil changes, transmission oil, engine gaurd, flushes, 6000k HID, Tax, duty, prinvincial+federal inspections total to around $12,000~13,000US. Cars in general are more expensive in Canada, a lot more expensive for the same car. But having a 98 SC here in Vancouver is priceless because I have yet to see a 97+ SC here. Mine is a very clean SC, no mechanical problems, always use premium fuel, detailed monthly, and garaged. Pretty much stock but if I had extra money to burn I'd want AC kit, new rims, navigation, IS seats, and vertical doors..

I'd be curious to what the value of my car. Even ICBC, our only auto insurance provider here, did not have a record of my cars local value.

I'm also in Vancouver and I was lucky enough to get my '95 SC4 for $11K CDN. However I bought it from my dads dealership (hence the low price), an option that usually no one has. I was looking for a 5spd for over a year and because there arent many of these cars here in general I 'settled' for the SC4. However I'm willing to trade my car straight up for basically any 5spd so long as its not falling apart. Or I could sell it for around $15K as is the normal price here for one of these, and go down to the states and buy a newer one, or find a 5spd, and still have some money left over.
Speaking of no 97+ in Vancouver, I've seen a few, but not many. The only one I did see for sale was in Richmond at a dealer. It was a 1997 SC4 for $23,000!!!!

starting to sound like the general $15K area is where I should be aiming for. Therefore it will leave me some room for negotiations and whatnot. So far I've only seen one 97+ in Edmonton, but other than that I haven't seen many SC's ever. I'd say about 5 at most.
