WTF... wow... your amazing... i would have never guessed that under the gold is freaking chrome... i just got done painting mine black satin bc it was my compromise for getting rid of the gold and not having chrome. BLAH. now i have to take it all off again.

nickel serves as a basecoat for true chrome plating, or gold plating...
I used to own a gold plating machine, the first step with anything chrome (emblems, exhaust tips, etc), is to remove the chrome... whats left is a nickel base... then the gold would be added...
so, it's not chrome, though it may be shiny nickel...

it's not really chrome underneath the gold - it's nickel...

I have a black 93 with the "gold pack" if they made that, I even have the gold pinstripe down the side. I agree, it looks very "90's" haha i think silver with a gold pinstripe would look wierd, plus im selling my car...but its a nice DIY at that

great write up... can you refund all my money I just spent on silver emblems? haha!
I am dredding taking off my old emblems, so I may try this while the emblems are on the car.

Good write up.. fortunately it's not a problem I have.
As opposed to a credit card may I suggest dental floss. It's what I've used to remove emblems before, and even less of a concern of scratching.
