Default Painting the chrome trim around my windows black- any suggestions?

Ever since I bought this car, I couldn't stand the chrome trim around the windows. I've taken it to a couple very reputable body shops, but they said they wouldn't paint it since it will chip over time. I took it to another shop today, and he quoted me $600 to paint the driver and passenger window trim. What's the big deal?

Has anyone in here painted this themselves? If not, where was the work done (I'm in Glendale, CA 91208)? I saw a couple black sc's in here with black trim, but I can't seem to find the links. Anyone in here have any tips, suggestions, or instructions on how to properly paint these?

If anyone has pictures (or links) of black SC's with black window trim- please post up

-Allen

My advice? Do it! But don't pay $600 for it. That's really high. Mine has been done for two years or so and hasn't chipped yet. I think it looks so much better.

use 3M Black Out tape...available at any pep boys/autozone...it will cover it up perfectly and won't chip, and comes in a flat black that matches the paint very well..

You can buy black out tape at Pep Boys to black out the chrome trim. But for a black car if you want your car too look a little more agressive and a little less VIP then blacking out the chrome trim is the way to go. I went that route and I think I'm still loving it.

Old thread, same question.

Wow- that looks beautiful

Did you do it yourself, or did you pay to have it done? It pisses me off when body shops don't wana do work because they say "it's our reputation on the line"

NYLexSC- where can I buy this tape from? Is it waterproof? (rain, car wash, etc)..

Here's the tape I used... I had to cut the tape exactly in half and that worked. Plus you get twice the amount of tape. =)

I wonder how it would look on a white car.

It looks good... Normal IMO. Chrome is a little much for me. I think all the Soarers come with black trim. Chrome trim must be a USDM thing.

truth

I think it looks good either way personally, I am thinking of re-blacking mine as well...like chanh55 said, the tape in half lengthwise should fit perfectly, and btw its completely waterproof and it won't come off (after fully cured) unless you take a razor blade to an edge of it and pull it off, so it works lol

not difficult at all, i've done it before with the same tape. It works like electrical tape but as long as you keep it taut it won't crease like electrical tape does because it doesn't stretch as easily as electrical tape.
