How many people have non working factory keyless entry?

Great post! Old tech axiom..."a good visual is worth a hundred tests". I would go one further and get the cold solder joints with a "blanket resolder instruction".
I have two remote keys and they both work if they are inches from the door. I think you have solved my problem and I thought that was the way they operated. My problem is that one key frame was cracked and the button fell out last week. Just my luck.
ANYBODY HAVE AN EXTRA KEY THEY WOULD PART WITH ?

no need for an extra key, mine cracked and the button fell out as well..here is the solution
1) use glue to put the broken piece back on (this works well)
2) use a button from an old nokia 5000 series phone to replace the lost button. its the perfect size/shape/form for the hole

There's a pic of it on page 1 or 2, inside the key..
OLT, My connection in the key seems ok yet I can't do anything to get a tone out of the stereo. I did change the battery, and the keyless entry ON switch under the steering wheel is ON. What is my next step, or do you not know? I will get a pic of the inside of my key later on tonight, maybe you can tell me if it does need to be soldered, but from looking at mine and comparing it to the pic of yours, it did not look like it was broken at all.

I'm in the same boat, I think my transmitter is completely gone. If I get a new key off of e-bay or one that works how do I reprogram that key. Do I do the "remove the rear seat" keyless box DIY tactics as explained earlier? Will that do the trick?

my key doesnt unlock the doors.
I got a tone on 94.9, so the key works. One thing i noticed while sitting in the car, when i go to press the door lock button, the doors wont lock, but they will unlock. is that a problem or is there some safety that wont let you lock the doors from the inside when the key is not in?
Also, the rear seat thing. what does that actually test for, broken reciever antenna?
