I did the same mod on my old school prelude and it turned out very nice indeed.
As an alternative clear spray, I used Testors 'candy apple red' clear spray which can be had at most model/hobby stores. At $4 a can (you'll maybe need two for 3-4 coat coverage) the price is definately right. Clearcoat afterwards is recommended.
