Sorry my camera is broken so I can't take any pics at the moment, but this is the part I meant:

I got the rod pushed into the handle there ^^ with the new plastic piece, so now where does the other end of the rod go? I have it going to the top of the white box right below it, and when I open the outside handle it pushes down on the mechanism and opens the door. But, the same part of the white box goes down when I open the inside door handle, causing the flat part of the rod to fall out of place. Is there another clip that holds the rod in place that I am missing? I noticed someone else said that they secured the rod to a part of the door, but I would imagine that there is something that is supposed to be there. If it comes down to it I may just rip open the passenger door and see how it is set up on that side.

Anyway thanks for the help! I hope that is a little more clear than my previous post.

Ok, i know what you mean now. I believe this is the same issue that others described when the rod breaks at the bottom. Anyone know more about this?

Default SC400 Door Handle Repair - Pictures

Here are my pictures. White 95 SC400 w/ 148,000 miles. Door handle on passenger side stopped working - and ran the window up /down (1) time before checking Club Lexus Forum.

Same problem... Plastic Clip was broken.
I just installed the NEW Plastic Clip - and getting ready to try pushing the ROD back in. I'm hoping I don't break / snap the rod.

These pics should help others in the same predicament.

Default SC400 Door Handle Repair - Pictures (#4)

Another Pic... before I tried bending back. Good thing I took this pic - looks like I have to be REAL CAREFUL so I don't stress the "weak / forked" part of the metal.

Close Up of "forked" part of ROD.

I think I'm going to try to grasp the rod with some VICE GRIPS before bending back into the Plastic Clip. If I can fit them in the door cavity, and get a firm grasp of the rod, above the "forked" section.

Default SC400 Door Handle Repair - Pictures (#6) - Plastic Pcs

It worked. Didn't have to use the VICE GRIPS... just slowly and carefully bent it back and pushed into the plastic pc.

I now have an extra pair - I'm keeping one set for me, but I have another for sale. $10 for the pair.

E-Mail me at LESMAN@HOTMAIL.COM

Hope this helps someone else.

Regards,

lol. wtf, why couldnt I find this thread!!!????

Ive fixed this prob about a month ago, went to lexus and got the part for like $7.

That little plastic nubbin was testing my patience lol.

If anyone does it in the future:

1. Set clip in Handle hole/spot first.
2. Push rod into clip.
3. THEN Flip clip over and snap in.

NOT put clip on rod then JAM in handle. lol

I just attempted this fix. My rod was OK and the plastic clip had broken. I put everything back together, and when I pull the outside handle it feels “different” (more tension when pulling) and when it gets to the top (full pull), the rod and snap connector just pop right out of place. The yellow connector and rod stay connected, they just pop out of the hole on the handle

This happened three times, than on the fourth time, the handle worked. We test pulled it about 50 times before putting the door back together. Than as luck would have it, this morning as I went to get in the car… pop, the thing shoots out again and I the handle wont work.

Why is this thing popping out when the handle is pulled? Am I doing something wrong, or is my rod bent in a weird way?

Any ideas fellas?
