Parcel Shelf Rattle Fix
My 93 SC 400 I purchased a year ago.
The rattles when I hit bumps were driving me nuts, they were obviously coming from the rear seat area.
I believe many SC300 and 400's suffer from the same problem
Finally had a friend sit in the back seat and listen.
Tracked the rattles down to the shelf below the back window.
Finally had some time yesterday and fixed the problem.
Very easy fix.
Removed rear seat and rear seat back.
Popped the rear shelf up but didn't remove it.
I slid in some foam pieces about 11/2 to 2 inches thick in the spaces behind the speakers and between the speakers and voila no more rattles.
The foam has to be thick enough to create slight pressure on the parcel shelf.
What a joy now to not have any rattles.
I find myself now steering towards bumps in the road just to make sure the fix is still working.
A now totally rattle free 12 year old car.
Yahoooooooooooooooooooo

Does your JL 10IB4 fit under the stock cover because I recently had one installed and the stock subwoofer cover does not fit back into the clips on the rear deck. It's like it's a half inch too tall so it ends up rattling the whole rear deck it seems. I'll definitely have to look into some foam to see if I can get rid of most of my rattling problems. Thanks for the tip.

Yes it's using the original mounting bracket for a lack of a better term. I actually ended up cutting out the subwoofer cone itself and using the metal bracket that was left and mounted the JL straight to it but it sits too high for the subcover to sit firmly in the clips. It looks like if I could shave the bracket down a little then everything would sit right but I hadn't heard of anyone else having to do this with the installation of a JL 10IB4 in an SC so that's why I'm asking the experts

It does make the shelf sit higher than before the 10IB4 installation, but I added enough foam underneath to lift the shelf so it's not as noticeable. There is still a space in front of the subwoofer cover, but not too much.
