The fines may have gone up and your mileage may vary, but for 7+ years I've driven around L.A. without a front plate for only $20.

0l33l (how is that pronouced?), I live near Beverly and Robertson. I'm actually in LA, but adjacent to Bev Hills and WeHo. Other CL members have noted that our cars are rare on the road, but I'll bet you and Mike have noticed they remain pretty common in our part of town!
The problem is that I live in Hest Hollywood, and I don't have a parking garage, so the SC is parked outside my windows every day

0l33l is pronounced zero-leet. Funny thing is that one of my neighbours has a blackish 92-94 SC400 and another neighbour has a champagne colored SC (can't tell cuz its in a parking lot). 3 SCs on one block

Yeah, WeHo parkers get a lot of heat. Three on one block! That comes in handy if you ever need any spare parts!

jcm3- yeah, the enforcement is kinda sporadic- I've been stopped at DUI check points and pulled over for speeding and in both cases the cops never bothered to walk to the front of the car to check if I had a plate.

Since a missing plate is technically a violation in the states where they are required, a cop can light you up just for that, so if you have anything in your car you don't want a cop to see, you might want to put on a front plate even if you're not a fan of the look.

Yep, 3 on one block The champagne one looks like its better than mine.... it has all crystal clear headlights. The blackish SC400 looks awful, the paint is fading, and the 1st get wheels are pretty ugly.

The good thing about the SC is that its not very "noticeable" when a plate is missing. Like there is no place to put it, so sometimes the parking maid doesn't notice its missing.

Are you gonna attend SupraCoup3's meet?

Default in MALIBU?

Haha....beware of living in this area too long because after a while you get so provincial that you almost never venture west of the 405, east of Larchmont, or north of Mulholland!

I usually go the Fontana and Carson Toyota meets each summer, but it looks like they won't be held this year.

Man just go! lol, tell you what...if you go I'll go, how's that?...then at least you'll know one knucklehead to pal around with....

And yeah, when I lived in LB a month ago I used to drive at least 60 miles a day. Now that I live in LA and drive about 15 miles a day I feel that anything involving getting on the freeway is too far. That's hilarious to me...

The devil made me put on my front licence plate Actually my mom did
I went to my mechanics place and he told me to run to home depot. Of course I got the wrong thing, but they had extra bolts, and hte L braket I got was good I spend $7 at home depot, and $20 at my mechanic.

My reasoning: the $10 I save for not getting a ticket will go to my BFI fund

[Edit]: Yeh I know I parked like *****. Better than getting the chrome rims scratched

Hmm, so it's only cost effective after three tickets? That's unfortunate...

Not really. Less than one. Because if I get a ticket w/o the front plate it would cost me $31. Then I would still have to put the front plate on somehow ($27) and pay $10 processing fee So basically $27 saves me from a $37 fine Get my reasoning?

Last time someone suggested to me that I should put my license plate behind the windshield like your friend had and I thought it's absolutely the dumbest idea that I ever heard.
The license plate would fly and chop someone's head off in an accident. However I still see people with their license plates this way driving around...

I just got a parking ticket for not having a front plate here in LA. These suckas really have nothing better to do I guess. My car was PARKED on a residential street for goodness sake! and they still ticketed me for no front plate

I spoke to a friend who works for the city and he said to put the plate behind the front windshield on the dashboard. It's still technically displayed on the front of the vehicle and you don't have to drill any silly holes in your bumper to do it.

Women freaking out over silly things is the reason why I'm not married, well that AND other things too I guess

The laws states
California Vehicle Code:5200.
(a) When two license plates are issued by the department foruse upon a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for whichthey were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear. (b) When only one license plate is issued for use upon a vehicle,it shall be attached to the rear thereof, unless the license plate isissued for use upon a truck tractor, in which case the license plateshall be displayed in accordance with Section 4850.5.
In other words, it can be put anywhere that is visible upfront. You can have it be near the fog lights or in the cabin, as long as it is visible. So if a cop gives you some BS about how that's not legal, go to court and the judge will laugh at the officer. About it flying and chopping someone's head off: anything you put into your car can do that (a baby was killed by a flying cellphone).
