http://store.uhaul.com/(vvtrxm55k5jy...d_hitches.aspx

U-Haul offers a class 1 hitch for our cars (The only one they offer so I guess our cars weren't meant to pull anything over 1000lbs)
It's $188+ $40 for labor. (I think the wiring is separate)

Good luck.

Well, I can attest that an SC4 CAN pull that kinda load without any problems whatsoever. There is no issue pulling out of the water (ramp dependent of course), and braking isnt a big deal. Ive towed a 17' Maxum fiberglass boat without trouble. Buy a tranny cooler-TAKE IT SLOW, and dont worry bout what anyone says. The hitch I bought is a class 2 and is barely noticable with the ball assembly removed. My car pulls that heavy boat out of the water with 0 problem-doesnt slip, goes up hills without issue at all.

I sold my old 93 SC400 with 150k to a golfing psychiatrist. A few months after I sold it I saw him lowering a 15 foot boat into the water with half the a$$ of his car emerged. At least it was zaino'd. . .

That hitch has a 2500lb GVW capacity, and 200lb tounge weight. You must have had that thing at twice it's capacity with a 17ft boat & trailer.

I can pick the hitch up by hand from the ground (> 200 lbs), Im quite certain my boat doesnt weigh 5000lbs. More like 17-1850, add the trailer and its close to 2500, but certainly not over or anywhere near twice. The end of the car has never touched the water since ive been towing it-wheels dont even get wet on the ramp.

Does anyone know the best way to install the wiring for the trailer lights??

Can I just splice a "car side plug thing" into the cars tailights or do I need a converter box??

"You can drive a care with your feet but it doesn't mean it's a good idea."
-Chris Rock

I don't think the car has enough weight to pull up a ramp, I'm pretty sure it will happen like this. You'll get it in the water, have fun at the end of the day when you try to pull it out you'll spin your tires and possibly end up slicing in reverse, thus sinking your car?

Also Have you ever owned a boat? Man I've had wacky waves almost pull a land rover in to the water (after its hooked to the front and you start reeling it on to the trailer) (also right before a storm that came out of no where)
But still **** happens, I say WAY TO RISKY! Maybe to tow a motorcycle trailer or something like this but a boat RIDICULOUS!

The SC400 can tow a boat no problem. The tranny and motor are more than strong enough. I have towed dual jetskis more than 100x and a buddies large boat a couble times......no problem!
