Guilty as charged OLT. I have always loved the SCs and to be honest, no matter what car I get (2nd Gen GS or SC) I will still come in this forum. I always go in this order GS-SC-Tire Rack-Car Chat-Clubhouse-Marketplace!!

I actually test drove a immaculate 95 400 with Nak/ heated seats, etc and 67k on Friday, the car was awesome, asking price 12,995 but it was dark green, not my fav color for the SC, no offense to the current owners of that color. I kinda figure, if i'm gonna get another older car, it might as well be the color I really want (White, Silver, RED, gold, etc)

I had my SC out the other day in a parking lot while I was washing my other car. A nice guy approached me and asked if I knew if that Lexus (mine) was for sale. Since I am going back to school and will therefore need money I regrettably told him it was. He was amazed that it was a 93 with 150k miles. I told him the asking price was 7K, reasong being because it's in great condition and it was the first # to pop into my head. He seemed impressed and pursued me throughout the week where he test-drove it. After a week of mulling-it-over, he offered me $5600! I tried my hardest not to be offended. But, the fact remains it's probably not worth all that much more than his offer.

I noticed you all talking about Lexus' resale value. I just bought a pearl white 96 Lincoln Mk VIII with 78k miles in excellent condition for $3100. Granted, it was at a dealer auction, but I could plunk my SC out at the auction this week and walk home with nearly 6 grand. If my SC were a 96 with 78k miles (same as Lincoln), you'd better believe it would be over 10,000 smackers. And just an FYI, the Mk VIII drives like crap compared with my SC. And the build quality nauseates me. It will be a gloomy day when I hand over my SC keys to another individual. I'll be posting an ad in the classifieds soon if anyone's interested.

Well we are talking about the best Lexus ever made here IMO. If the SC300 was made in 2004 with new electronics and sold for $50k that would be worth it. If a V12 SC 600 was made for $90k then that would be worth it too. But it would need to keep the original body shape and not the new one. Perhaps a retractable hard top convertible too. I am dreaming of course.

One quick thing to those thinking of purchasing an SC. Condition,condition, condition. Don't save a few thousand only to have blemishes that will bug you every single time you look at your car. A better condition SC is cheaper in the long run if you want it to look nice. If you find an SC you like and it has blemishes do yourself a favor and find the cost of repairs. Be realistic and do not use quotes used on this site since most of what you find here will be one off deals that are hard to come buy.

If you want performance cheap (which is a relative term anyway) then be careful. These things add up quick. Before you know it you have doubled or tripled your initial estimate.

Do it once and do it right. Research and make wise choices. I learned alot but it cost me some $$$$$s through mistakes.

Thats the mantra that I LIVE by bud!! Thats why I have a 1st Gen now! I could not afford a immaculate 2nd Gen, so i had to get an immaculate 1st!! LOL

Excellent advice for others though man. So many guys say, "oh it just needs a this, or it just needs a that" but that stuff adds up to a brand new SC430!! LOL

Part of the problem with expensive SC's is the refusal of Lexus to produce and market a current-generation SC-300 or 330 as a more reasonably-priced alternative to the ridiculously expensive SC430. While this gap in the lineup is filled to some extent by the new Toyota Solara, it STILL is not really a Lexus, and the new Solara, while a nice car, definitely doesn't have the SC's stunning wood-trimmed interior.
The real mistake was that Lexus should not have dropped the SC300 when they redesigned the series a couple of years ago. When a new SC300 is introduced it will drop the prices of used ones.

Good words Mike. The cost of OEM parts is soooo high, it costs much more to fix a couple of little things than to get a done deal in the first place.
