sc300 sc400 alternator
#19
Hey Fred Smith,
The Power Steering pump was replaced at the same time when the alternator went south a couples years ago and I haven't seen any leaks at all. I am currently at about 150K miles now and I am still very happy with the car. Plan to keep it until it dies.

Does anyone know if there’s a cleaning agent used to remove build up on the alternator... I have the power steering fluid problem that I plan on rebuilding with the kit from Lexus... I don’t think my alternator is really gone.... but it does clip sometimes at high volumes when pressing the brakes with the lights and AC on.
I seen allot of posts on the Alternator/PSP but haven’t seen anyone who has cleaned the alternator instead of replacing or rebuilding it.
sense im doing all of this tomorrow any info would be Greatly Appreciated!!
Thankx

What brand is the SC alternator?
Just wondering what brand is the alternator in the 93 SC400. Also, has anyone ever tried cleaning the p/s fluid off of an alternator?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is most likely Denso.
You need to make sure to fix the problem with the power steering pump, before you replace your alternator. It is common for the SC power steering pump to leak on the alternator, and ruin it. You are going to need to replace both the alternator AND fix the power steering pump leak at the same time, or your new alternator will be toast before too long...
