Newby's CS300 engine question
Greetings all,
after several months of searching, I have finally located a 1992 manual SC300, which appears to be in good shape body-wise, but the engine has 240000 miles. I was, therefore, thinking about changing the engine as a matter of precaution. It appears that the2JZ_GEengines are available, see, e.g., http://www.ebay.com/bhp/2jzge-engine, but some of them are marked as 1998-2005, front or rear sump, nonVVTI, etc. Which one should I be looking for? Are there another source, e.g., crated engines from Japan?
I went to a shop in San Diego, but they told me that the Japanese engines cannot be used because "the fittings from Japanese engines will not necessarily fit American cars -- different shapes, not just a question of size." It has been always my understanding that the engines are imported precisely because they can be used.
If someone knowledgeable could provide any insight, i.e., which particular engine to look for, what is the best source for such an engine, reliable supplier, and shop with knowledgeable staff in San Diego, Escondido, Temecula area, I would appreciate it.
Kindest regards,
M
