I've got a set of Supra TT's with 225 winter tires, and that's stretch city in the back. They're smiling at the thought of an extra 70mm.
I would say it's 50/50. Side shots and a lot of the angled shots make it look like they fit within the fender, because the tire being inside the vertical line makes it deceptive. It takes an almost straight on shot to see that the rim is jutting out. Then, of course, there's all the posts saying something fits but not having accompanying photos.
Well supra TT wheels work great with 275 out back and 245 up front and I use those all season. 225 for winter actually works cause in the snow you do want skinnier tires.
Aftermarket wheels which are 10+" wide I would get an offset that could stuff a 295 under there at the very least but I like having more tire.
Gerrb was trying to get me to stuff a 305+ in there when I was shopping around, that would have been meaty!
Different SC owners have different goals, some want max tire some want hella flush camber'd n stretched, I like both looks personally but I always go for less aggressive offset and max tire.
Its weird that places like ebay and whatnot have these wide 15mm offset wheels listed for the SC as fitting, and really they don't fit at all with a big tire unless you do a lot of work even then its questionable. I would grab some in proper supra fitment and then you can usually run a normal/big tire.

I'm not putting enough power to the pavement for that to be a primary concern, but I did briefly entertain making the TT's my summer wheels for that reason.
Im planning to go 18x9.5 +27 & 18x10.5 +30, prob 245/40 and 275 or 285 35 in the rear. A little less aggressive offset then the RPF1 so should be ok...I hope.

I would say go with a 275/35/18. The 285 can fit, but it'll poke out too much in the rear and kick up a lot of dirt on to the rear quarter panel which doesn't look as nice on white paint. Plus a 285 will be more square on the rear giving you less clearance if you want to ride low.
This is the only photo I could find showing fitment with these wheels. This should give you a good idea of how your wheels will fit with a 275 in the rear. Ignore all the tape and electrical wiring, I was in the middle of polishing.
The wheel offset thread I found to be very informative and full of many options to pursue.
In doing all of the reading and research, one opinion I came away with was the width of the wheels does not have to be that radical unless you want to have a lot of stretch (which I did not) and have to resort to fender mods (that I did not want to do or see the benefits) or camber settings that would effect tire wear and maybe even safety.....
Once I decided on wheel size and whether I was up for a staggered setup, the decision was 8 inch width on the front and 9 for the back. The wheels I selected, though, did not have 9 so had to go with 9.5 which then allowed for 235F and 275R as final choices... Of course, the offsets for each wheel had to be taken into account and in going with the TSW-Lumarai line being designed to fit Lexus we achieved the fit, stance, and look desired.
The RPF1's come in many sizes and offset on the 18 inch models so hope you can select ones that do not require a lot of fender work, spacers, or radical camber to get your target look.....
Only if you want camber/stretch. By my rough math, the rims will stick out a little over 1" in front.
So I guess he's cambering the front to compensate for that 1" right? I guess now that I look at the photos it seems like that's the case. On our cars for camber adjustments could be done with or without coilovers right? Sorry, I'm new to the SC platform.

Keep it simple and follow the numbers I posted previously, and which have been echoed by a few others in the thread. 17x8 +30 is about as flush as you can get up front. Anything wider or lower offset will push it out from there and will require more than fender rolling to fit. Stretched tires will give it the appearance of fitting in many photos, even if it sticks out quite a bit.

I've been wanting to go 17's because I would like meater tires, and less stretch. Look at this Lonnie's from the Supra Store.
