Sc300 Radiator Options

Sc300 Radiator Options
So my Radiator decided that after 24 years it was tired of my **** and cracked, sprayed fluid all over my window, and through the open driver side window on to my face. Thankfully the coolant was true to its name and didn't burn me, but it was definitely hot. So I'm looking around for an aftermarket option for the SC300.
So far it seems as if the Koyo, and Mishimoto Supra radiators will "fit" but requires trimming the battery tray and some other modifications. However I want something that I can install with no modification whatsoever. I currently do not have a fan shroud so I'm looking for any radiator options that will fit without requiring me to do any modifications. I have a stock 2jz-ge. Just curious what you guys recommend.

Dude,
Just buy a Denso, which is the original equipment supplier.

$84.79 is a good deal.

I was in the same situation a few weeks ago where my radiator cracked at the top. I bought this same one mentioned and took the time to change over to the Toyota "Red" as well. This radiator fits perfect on a 99 SC300. It's a two core instead of a one core listed for a 99. I hope this helps...

There are actually quite a few options for rads for our cars. Don't buy any thing with a plastic tank. They're garbage! I found a new 2 core copper and brass for mine for 2 hundred. There are of course the all aluminum options also. Shop wisely my friend.

+1 for just getting a Denso replacement. My stock one cooled the car just fine, so didn't see the need to buy a more expensive aftermarket Supra one that requires a bit of tweaking to fix. New Denso replacement will install just like factory. I just bought one on the auction site last night for $70 shipped (Denso 221-3118).

^^ I also agree with getting a new OEM spec Denso radiator. You can get it from Rockauto or direct from their densoproducts website. The Supra spec Koyo and Mishimoto radiators are both very good but will not be needed unless you are planning to turbocharge.
Additionally, you REALLY do need the OEM SC300 fan shroud and the lower plastic for it. That is what keeps the airflow from your mechanical fan efficient and directed onto the radiator's fins.
The extra modifications needed to fit Supra MKIV style radiators and fan shrouds all amount to the same thing, just with higher cooling capacity.

I can definitely tell you this one is different than the 92 one I pulled out (see pic below). But my factory 92 one for sure had plastic tanks.
I could definitely be wrong, but my understanding is Denso is the current OEM supplier. I couldn't tell you if Denso simply changed their design from what they offered in the 90's, or if it was in fact a completely different supplier back then such as Koyo or Aisin. None the less, it's a direct factory replacement, fits perfectly, and Denso is an OEM brand in general so you can expect that level of quality/fitment.

I believe there are more Japanese radiator options out there for the JZZ Soarer. But, you would have to search each Japanese powerhouse to find them. No one mass produces them.
For example, a couple years back Koyo made a Soarer specific radiator that was Supra width and a direct bolt-in. I wouldn't be surprised if they still make it.
Now why don't they offer it here in North America? Well, that's where you would need to get in contact with Koyo USA. I would assume that even if they brought it here, people would have a hard time paying $500 for a radiator.
