1991 Soarer UZZ32 Limited
So guys I'm thinking of possibly pulling the trigger and getting a 1991 Soarer UZZ32 Limited V8 in Dark Green. Only 872 of these were made and includes the four wheel steering, active suspension, leather, etc. The vehicle only has 26,000 miles.
I'm just wondering of the reliability on these, etc.
If I ran into any issues with the motor in the future the 1UZFE was in several U.S. vehicles (LS400, etc - list others?).
As far as interchangable parts with the SC's the only thing I know it's not so far is the front windshield since the glass's curvature is different due to the wipers being reversed. I learned this from Japanese Classics LLC as they had an issue with a Soarer of theirs.
Being a 25 year old car should I go ahead and switch out all the spark plugs, wires, oil change (dino or synthetic), oil filter, etc? Let's just say you could eat from the engine bay, it's so clean.

That's a real beauty. I don't know if I could drive that car, it's so rare, so desirable, I think it's one of those cars that just stays in the garage.
I imagine the four wheel steering and active suspension parts are impossible to find, so if they break that would be a nightmare. Gotta check Japans OEM soarer parts listings. Also from what I remember the radio is Japanese, and it has built in navigation, that might be something to replace with a modern unit. Again could be tricky with all it's uniqueness, not sure I'd want to change anything.
Realistically what do you want the car for though? Daily driver or show car? If you've got the money to buy it, and not drive it, I say go for it. But if you're buying it to drive it daily, it's inevitable something stupid will happen to it and ruin the masterpiece it is. Then again that's what insurance is for.

wow that is a clean car. that is classic car territory that you should keep 100% stock, i agree.
if you get a good deal it will never lose value i imagine. but as Biddles said, parts are going to be damn near impossible to find for the unique sections of it. Otherwise as with any sc300/400, supra parts are cross compatible for a large chunk of the car.

That is absolutely gorgeous. I gotta say, I'm a bit envious..lol. Hope you do get it and enjoy it though.
As long as this is not your daily, I'm sure you'll be able to maintain it properly with enough research and accumulating resources. Definitely start with the list you mentioned. Good luck!

That is an immaculate example, I think it sold in Japan nearly a year ago for about 12-14k USD, pretty sure it was going to USA which is where it's landed for sale
I have a UZZ32, drive it regularly.
They are the best Soarer / SC there is, make no exception.Until you drive one, the cobination of a faster steering rack, rear steering and the active suspension control make it an uncanny drive, provided you have high quality tyres and a good road, you can throw them around bends like nothing I've driven, it makes my friends M3 E46 feel soft!
It's a real shame they didn't make more, but that said, for the few that have them it makes them all the more special.
Sadly here in New Zealand, they aren't understood, similarly in Australia they are also butchered, ruined or parted for whatever reason.
BUT! There are a few like myself that are devoted to them. So far we only know of about 220 cars accounted for, some working, some dead, etc.
I've repaired parts of my suspension, new bushes and the like.
Nearly NO unique UZZ32 parts can be bought from Toyota anymore, all discontinued so its a game of restoration of the old parts, custom bushes, custom seals and DIY repairs, don't even bother trying to take one to a mechanic, they would just laugh, you'd be better off going to a hydraulics specialist.
I've just finished putting a 4.3L 3UZ and 5 speed automatic (LS430 type) into mine to get a bit more factory specification performance out of it, hopefully it will be back on the road this week. Michael, as a UZZ32 owner and member of the small community for those models is there any comparison of the 4WS system in these cars to the HICAS 4WS systems found in Silvias, Z32-TT 300ZX's and R32-R34 GT-R's which tend to fail or get disabled by their owners? There are so few Toyota 4WS vehicles but it seems like their systems do not have the same quirks as the Nissan HICAS 4WS systems.
It's sad to me that new UZZ32 specific parts are not available any longer.

I don't really know too much of the Nissan systems, how they feel to drive and how reliable they are, but most people even here in NZ disable the system which I find surprising.
In my UZZ32 the system works faultlessly, at low speeds at 50%+ lock it mechanically moves via cam cables, up to 5 degrees in an out of phase direction, so it really cuts the turning radius. When driving it alters between in phase and out of phase movement up to 1 degree via an electronic motor with hydrualic assist.
It's a key piece to the way the car feels. Even in the worst examples I've seen the system still works so its very reliable.
