Default One Thing I Noticed About ClubLexus or Lexus Forum In General.

One thing I noticed about CL or Lexus' forum, just to make it general is... it's busier and members do tend to reply more vs, well for example, Honda or Mercedes' forums.
Don't get me wrong and I'm not trying to say anything negative about the other groups. None and nothing to really say anything bad about certain forums. But for some reason, I just truly think that members here tend to respond more or even if they don't respond, I noticed that the number of views on new threads tends to increase. Let alone this small community of SC. It's busy and I really appreciate that. I don't know why!

I wonder if any of you guys get the same vibe as I do.

I kind of agree but I haven't been on every big forum on the Net. Ours is definitely an active one though. And SF.

A friend who is on one of the Mercedes forums experiences far less traffic but it's also not a forum for a common vehicle, even for Mercs.

I couldn't say, really. I assume at least NASIOC (for Subaru owners) or StangNet or the largest F-Body forums must get some considerable traffic.

I tend to agree with you though. Lots of traffic here.

We have over 275k members if I am not mistaken ...

Kinda surprised when I saw a new member on SF say in his introduction why he joined SF ...

I quote :

" i own a 95 SC300. the reason i joined is, to be honest, club lexus is a great site but is not really that active anymore so im hoping this sight will be " .

/end of quote

I really wonder what that meant . Wanted to post on that introductory thread but refrained . Some people just to say something on a thread .. they say things that are not true or perpetuate things they have heard or read even if it is not correct !

I saw a guy in the last few days complain that we weren't 'active' anymore gerrb. If this was recent, probably the same guy.

He posted a question and got upset that he didn't have 100 replies in the first day or two... Thought everyone was here just to help him like we sit here waiting to help. No biggie.

yeah ... he joined SF 4 or 5 days ago .

He will be surprised if he asks questions at SF and he is expecting to be spoon fed quick... lmaol. You ask a dumb question there , some people are not forgiving. They will simply tell you " SEARCH, it had been asked many times !" . I have seen people here who left SF after some initial posts cause they felt offended, lol.

Again I hope nobody gets me wrong. SF is a very nice forum to be that's why it is the other forum I spend basically all my free time. You will learn a lot . But if some of the unforgiving crowd gets into your thread .. you are doomed ..lol.

Yeah... can't expect to be spoon fed. If I know I am asking a simple question after not finding information I just ask to be pointed to post or links. I can read lol. I previously was on a civic forum and there it was always "let me google that for you" stuff... it gets old.

275K members here? Wow!

Yes, SF isn't for the squeamish. My personal policy there is to keep my threads and posts to the facts or, for the the truly obscure questions I also cite my searches. I do the same here too-- I just talk more on CL On SF that approach usually works fine. Occasionally there will be almost no responses to something and I just move on and keep hunting for what I need to know. One cannot be easily offended there.

Once I made a thread with an article and petition link about the 25-year foreign vehicle import ban there which at the time got at least some traction on various Internet car forums. I kept the thread VERY concise, to the point and facts other than that I felt it was a cause worth mentioning. I was very surprised at the overwhelmingly negative and chiding response posts that thread got. It was so much that I just left it and turned off notifications for it.

But... that's one thread. And there's also that old adage "it's the Internet". I didn't stop using SF because of it

Here on CL I will often dash off facts or thread links for folks IF I know I have the right information to give but I sometimes suggest searching as well. If I know it's a question that is on something obscure or seldom covered... I throw in more up front information for the OP. If it's an extremely well covered topic that has a lot of documentation already that isn't as necessary. For very new members who may not know exactly what to search for I at least give them the bullet points they need to get started in their research.

Helping people on these and other forums is big, to me. But forum posts shouldn't be about popularity if that's what you guys have been observing such as in the case of that guy on SF whom you both mentioned.

I browse and participate on three model CL threads and all of them are quite active and filled with opinions and good info (in addition to our NorCal thread...)

There is a lot of "use the search" responses to newbie's trying to get a "quick answer" (and deservedly so) but there are a lot of threads and the search responses come back with a long list of items to wade through so it is easy to see both sides....

Not familiar with the "SF" site so no opinion there but the CL group is great bunch of people and have helped a lot on all of my Lexus needs....

If it weren't for this site I would have literally thrown my sc away weeks after purchasing it. In a matter of days I was able to read through and find solutions to virtually any problem I could foresee happening to the car. Seriously, show me another site with a 100+ post detailing the egr system that Gerrb has produced this past month. The details gained here are impressive to say the least. Or how about Ali's tt ecu thread... How many people would have thrown in the towel if not for that easy mod. If you look at most of the mods and active users, they have been here helping for years if not an entire decade. I doubt they are ever paid anything and rather just wish to help others out.

The one place that sf shines for me is the information in the dyno section and the builds seem to be much more performance motivated than here. I spent weeks reading every dyno thread for the past few years, along with the build threads with actual stats and with that, I am confident in the turbo setup I pieced together in that it will perform exactly as I hope. That is not to say that members here have not posted such information, more that it is just much harder to find and nowhere near as detailed for performance stats.

I believe that both sites compliment each other perfectly. Between the two sites, I can't think of a question I have that there isn't an answer for if I look hard enough. I use this site to get information to get the car running and driving properly and hunt there for performance choices.

I can't thank the members here enough and hope that someday I will have enough knowledge to pass something onto the community that is actually worth reading.

When I was a moderator at first I would tell people to search with no links, then I realized that it was not very helpful and even though things get repeated 100 times, maybe on the 101th time we will find a better way to do it from discussing it again, or it will just becomes that more clear. New members appreciate it and become old members that pass it along to the new members. This forum has become a lot nicer place in the last 5 years especially this section.. it used to be more like SF where everyone is dying to get in a search or noob comment etc... but somewhere along the line people actually started helping each other here and it is what keeps me around still.

Its been a while since a fast and furious quote from me, so here it is

Nothing wrong in joining other forums if such forum can help you get the info you need. I see quite a number of our members there . You don't need to have a supra to be a member. IF you are into the JZ power plant flatform or the Supra cars .. it is one of the best resource especially for technical informations. Hopefully one day our forum will have all the technical info everyone needs to know as more and more people now are working on the performance aspect of their SCs . I hope it continues. I know some are more concerned on the looks. Nothing wrong with that too.

yeap ... we have quite a number of membership .

Knowing you to be a no nonsense person and even by just reading your posts , one can tell you know what you are talking about , still got negative responses is a testament that some people there can be unforgiving. It is not a place for sissies who cry when they are corrected or who cannot accept to be wrong. They will bury you six feet under the ground.

One thing I suggest though for those who have been individually sending PMs to ask technical questions , not that I mind , I would rather like you to post your questions on a thread... start one...
don't be afraid . That same question will help other people and a lot of other people with same experience can get into the thread and share their experience.

There's one thing for sure, we pretty much love our cars and appreciate anyone else that owns one. I always smile and break my neck when I see another one on the road. I live in one of the most highly commuted areas on the planet (Washington, DC), and I only see one or two a week tops. I think to myself that every owner I've ever met, or have seen on the road, has probably visited this site in search of help at one point or another. The response time here is a lot better than the "main" Honda forums. Believe me, I own a Honda Fit and a Honda Pilot, and it takes days to get a reply to a question/issue. I can pretty much guarantee a response from CL in about 4 hours on any issue.

the majority of people have moved to facebook groups, but any specialist forum for an enthusiast car is going to be very active, as there is a passion for the car

STi Forums, RX7 Forums 240sx forums ect..
