Been looking at getting something a little newer. The 350z Nissan and Chrysler Crossfire are about the same year and price. The Nissan is heavier but has more H.P Anyone have advice?

Keep the SC.

BUT what do you expect asking on an SC forum.

Ask on a dodge forum, people will say "chrysler"

Ask on a Nissan forum, people will say "350z"

Biased opinions. Rather the 350z then the crossfire, however.

If there were plenty of 98 and up SC400s avail. Id stick with Lexus. Rarely ever see one in these parts. I was leery of the crossfire. Slaker13, notice the G35 coupe is not on your list.

Honestly getting a G is better than a Z imo, the G37 is a really nice car decent luxury and very nice power. The Z is focused more on pure performance but again IMHO for driving around in the city you get tired of hearing the engine too much and feeling bumps.

i have owned both.i had a new 04 crossfire and a 06 350z convertible.the crossfire interior has very hard materials.i couldnt find a comfortable seat position and the front windshield is just weird to see out of.also it looks like a dog taking a dump on the side view.
the 350z had imo has a worst interior then the crossfire.the convertible was sooo bad when you drove it in the corners or going over railroad tracks.the body flex was like a wet noodle.cant comment on the hard top model.you are going to hate the quality of both of these cars after coming from a lexus imo.
i would think long and hard before going that route.

That is so true, the main reason I stayed with Lexus instead of getting a CPO G37 coupe was because a 2000 SC300 presented itself to me and I couldn't resist owning it.

I wouldn't have even included the 350z if you hadn't mentioned it in the first post. 305 hp vs the 330? (Not exact HP #'s I know) to me that's a no brainer when you learn that Infiniti/Nissan have pretty much squeezed as much hp as possible out of the VQ37. (so don't expect much in that department), but then you look at the price difference and you start to think if hp is all that... That wasn't a big deal for me since the tech/exhaust note/interior/car not 16+ years old made up for it haha

Though I will say RIP anyone's head/neck in the backseat of the g37 coupe due to the glass f**ing their head, and the trunk is on the small size but it's workable due to the rear seats being able fold down (coupe only)

I have looked down this path (sporty+luxury+Reasonably affordable) a lot within the past 3 months minus the 350z, albeit I did look into it a tad, but realized if I didn't want a back seat/trunk space I'd just get a 98' Mercedes SL500 and call it a day

What year were you looking into? And were you dead set on just those two?

ORRRRR buy a 98' Sl500, it's a vert that comes with a hard top, as well as it was riiiiiight before the whole Chrysler Mercedes shenanigans so you get the new goodies minus the cheap-o plastic, less hp, etc. It's looks are slightly dated I must say but man that V8 is something special. Just throwing that out there in case no one has heard of this vehicle

The Crossfire looked good when it was new. Interesting looker of a car based on a Mercedes SLK chassis (I think). But they annoyingly only included the manual gearbox on the base model while the range topping version was automatic-only. It's a nice cruiser car but it's NOT a muscle car, sports car or sports GT. I cannot speak of its reliability though-- no experience.

The 350Z is a good sports car. The 370Z is a better update. The G35 and G37 are/were Nissan's regular "Skyline" coupes and sedans until they rebranded in Japan. The G35/G37 coupe were the closest thing to the SC series in Nissan's lineup until a year or two ago.

The SC300/SC400/Soarer is an apples to oranges comparison. SC's are refined but still very analogue luxury muscle GT cars (once the drivetrains are worked over). Even the SC430 is a completely different kind of experience from the 1992-2000 models.

Depends on what kind of driving experience you want. Personally I'd suggest the SC, (especially if you want to have a seriously built engine) or the G35 Coupe 6MT Brembo or G37 Coupe 6MT Brembo. The 350Z or 370Z are two-seater short wheelbase versions of that chassis.

The Crossfire... ah... it does look nice. However I've never heard great praise of it otherwise.

Had my 95 sc4 for 5 yrs., my 93 SC4 for 4 yrs. thinking of something mid 2000s, looks good and sporty. Good gas mileage wouldnt hurt. Maybe Cobalt ss or turbo, but would rather have an automatic.

The 350z convertibles are a bad egg. I wouldn't consider it at all.

The coupe is a VERY different animal. I currently own a 350Z and use it exclusively for track use because of (wait for it!) its incredible chassis. Compared to my SC and Evo, the Z is just a much better choice because of how good that chassis is for a car with such a long wheelbase.

The 370Z is also a wonderful choice that gives up some wheelbase in order to drop a few pounds.

The G35 is a really great alternative as well if you need a backseat.

The G37 is a boat. I seriously never enjoyed that car. It's just too heavy to be in the same category. It really shouldn't be compared to the old G35 nor the 370Z. It's much more like an SC400.

Crossfire? Just look at it. That's all i have to say.

I removed my sunroof and made it a hardtop, so convertible is deff. out. THe g35 coupe looks better, but how about the fact.rear strut tower brace on the 350z?
