Default tt valve covers on ge?

I've got a 96 5sp and wanted to swap the valve covers over to the tt as they are much easier to weld than the magnesium sc covers. My question is that on the sf I see both vvti and non-vvti valve covers listed. Is it safe to assume that since my car is not vvti, that I can use the non-vvti supra valve covers?

yes, you can bolt non-vvti 2jz-gte covers on a non-vvti 2jzge. they have the same valve cover bolt pattern.

Thanks Ali.

I've learned to always ask the experts first as getting the wrong parts is always a problem with so many options on these cars.

One last question on this:
Will the stock intake system on the sc fit with the tt valve covers? Looking at pics it appears that the sc valve covers might be sitting 'lower' for clearance of the intake and throttle body. I've yet to get any real dimensions of the covers to see if they are the same height where it matters. I really don't want to have to swap the entire intake system to a ffim if I don't have to.

no it wont with the intake, you have to get the gte intake or aftermarket,
its many things you would have to change to make it a gte but its easy to work on these engines. you could just na-t no need to get gte valve covers

you need a FFIM to run the tt valve covers on a na-t.
the stock intake hardly has any clearance to the stock ge valve cover, and the tt ones are much taller.

Well I've just begun to learn to weld and there is no way I am ready for working with mg, so thought swapping to the gte covers would be a simple solution, obviously not. Appreciate the info guys, saved me from wasting $ on covers as ffim is not in the build plan. Better to just go and find a pro to do the welding. All of this is to remove the stupid leaking pcv valve and replace it with a 10an to a catch can.

I have a thread somewhere around here on drilling/tapping the GE valve covers, no welding required.
then you use a pipe thread to -AN fitting and you are good to go.
I put filters on the top but you can just get the fittings above and then run lines to a catch can.

the drivers side with the PCV the hole is already the right size for a 1/2" NPT tap. just remove pcv and grommet and tap it (with valve cover off car there will be tons of shavings)

the passenger side the hole is smaller once you remove the barb so I normally drill it out larger and then use the same 1/2" NPT tap so the fitting are the same size on both sides.
If you don't want to drill you can just tap the passenger to 3/8" NPT but the fittings will be smaller than the drivers but its not a huge deal.

Ah good work, I was thinking about getting it welded but this makes it so much easier.

You can tap either 2jzge or 2jzgte valve covers....

I recently just tapped my 2jzgte valve covers for catch can setup...

Welding isnt required and for me was not an option since my valve covers are already powder coated

Yeah you want to avoid welding with the GE valve covers due to the magnesium... better chance of starting a fire than anything else, just tap them and install the right fittings. If you take your time it can look very clean.

The GTE covers are aluminum so you can get those welded but good to know you can tap those as well, same basic principal.
