SC300- 5 speed manual(and auto) guys, post your mpg
Just wondering what sort of gas mileage you guys are getting, because I do have a bit of a lead foot, and my mpg is *****
So the car is a 1992 SC300, factory 5 speed manual. Only mods I've done is switch to 18" dealer accessory "spider" wheels, tires are the correct overall diameter if you compare them to the factory setup with 15" wheels and 60 series tires.
Anyways, I do drive her a bit hard on occasion, but a lot of my commute is at 60-75mph steady state in 5th.
Overall my mpg is around 18 to 19. If I do a bit more city driving it drops to 17, best mpg was 23.4 doing straight highway miles at 78-80mph, with a bit of a mountain thrown in.
Is this about what you guys get?? I really don't want to be a hater, but my old 1999 Z28 Camaro, with the LS1 V8 and automatic transmission got better gas mileage, even when I abused it. And that engine had 125 more horsepower.

It's been a while since I measured my fuel economy. I mostly drive in the city but use the local highway system constantly for short distances of 5-15 miles when not going out of area. I haven't been on long road trips for a while.
When I did measure, 23mpg highway on long drives was the most I ever got. In the current state of tune I average 21mpg highway (4.272 final drive ratio and LSD). City... probably between 14-15mpg or 16mpg. My driving style is very mixed. Sometimes I'm very conservative and sometimes not.
The 2JZ was never intended for great fuel economy. Although I think the 1JZ-GTE VVT-i gets around 26mpg highway in stock form.
I'm not surprised that the LS1 Camaro you had got better fuel economy even with the 4-speed automatic. Those engines are known to have decent fuel economy to a point as long as the vehicle they're installed into isn't a 4500lb behemoth.

Surprisingly to some, later GM F-Body cars generally had decent freeway mileage once they got their Fuel Injection sorted out. Being they had pretty decent low end torque from the TPI, LT, and LS engines, along with GM's need to keep their corporation wide MPG ratings high, they kept the top gear final drive pretty tall. It wasn't uncommon for these cars to hit 30 MPG on road trips.
I had (have, just doesn't run) a '91 Firebird GTA. That's a Tuned Port Injection, 5.7L (350ci) V8 with a 4 Speed (700R4) automatic. That turns about 2000 RPM at 60MPH. I'd get about 20MPG to 22MPG with a very lead foot and lots or stop & go traffic.
Good friend of mine has a 2000-early-something Firebird Furmula. That's a 5.7L LS1 with a 4 Speed (4L60e) automatic. That turns about 1800 @ 60. He gets mid 20's with a very lead foot, but hits 30-ish on road trips.
My current SC is a 400, so not exactly matching the question, but It's a '98. So that's a 4L 1UZ-FE with a 4 speed automatic. That turns just about 2050 RPM at 60MPH. I'm currently showing 18.7MPG with a very lead foot and lots of stop & go traffic.

yeah, and given the chalk markings on my rear end. It may have been swapped. ill be cracking it hopefully this winter to take a peek. but as of now it all is well. I seriously put 30-50 miles on it a weekend in the summer. So heavy foot...yes. My GMC savana is always there to keep my foot at bay.
