Default trunk strut bolt/stay

Hoping someone can tell me how to remove what Lexus calls the bolt door stay joint. This piece is in the trunk and one end of the strut attaches to it. My one strut keeps popping off this stay joint when the trunk is closed. I noticed this stay is a little loose compared to the other side and I think because of this it allows the strut to pop off even though the metal retaining clip is in place. I bought a new stay from Lexusbut not quite sure how to remove the old one .

Old stay.

Not sure how to do what you are asking.....

When I replaced the struts on the '92 SC the clips on the new struts shown in your picture would not grab on at all. So, the body shop used some clever "star washers" that pushed onto the bolt and kept the strut tight onto the bolt.

Worked great.... Might give that a try if you can not resolve your problem......

Can you tap it out from the back side? There doesn't look to much of a lip, if any, holding it in. I'm sure Toyota has some $100 SST designed specifically to access it...

Yeah I agree^^^

Sounds like you just have to tap it from behind.

There's a joke in there somewhere.

Yeah, I figured I might have to somehow tap it. lol.

To be honest, looking at the new bolt, I'm not really sure what is holding it in place. I can see back there but if feels just like the one end of the new bolt.

It's very tight space back there so getting the proper clearance to do so is going to be challenging. If I can't get it, I might try swinging by a body shop to see if they could get it out.
