Lost my one key, masterkey, and don't know what to do. I'm not trying to get another key with the buttons for locking and unlockin, I don't care about those.

I called Lexus 30 minutes ago and they told me "I can make an aftermarket key with no buttons for $25". I was stupid and didn't ask him if the key is just for opening and unlocking or for driving as well.

I have heard our master keys have sensors in them or something so I have no choice but to buy another master key and I was wondering how much that costed.

What is a typical price for key and what should I do?

If you have AAA they can cover part of the cost of making a new key. I think lexus charges like $70 for a new key(no remote), You would have to bring in your vin number and proof of ownership.

Order a spare now from the dealer. Just supply proof of ownership and the vin. I got the remote keys and programmed them to my cars. They can take order over the phone, local dealer or remote. Call around for best price. I used Sewell Lexus back when they had a Club Lexus discount.

lol at least you have your key now! Go ahead and get a duplicate asap. Just got one for $70 after tax from the dealership. (Master key with no remote)

I had the same issue and found it later. The next day I went to a local locksmith and they made me 3 spare keys. They were all generic laser cut keys without the Lexus logo but for like $20 a piece, I'll get picky later.

Oh cool guys, lol. Yeah I'm going to the dealership with my father today to get a spare. That man was pissed when I losted the master lol.

Well this might be a little off topic, but on my master key, the buttons don't work. Reasoning? The battery is new.

If it's the type of key that has the one button built into the black plastic then it's likely the internal antenna. There's a little piece of the solder that can break off from being thrown around for 20 years. Easy fix if you unscrew the panels and look at it.

I have never heard that the SCs had "a sensor in the key" but ours is a '92 and maybe it was added on later models? Just wondering....

Still have all three of our keys (2 keys with remote lock/unlock button that still work and the plain "valet" key).
