UUGGGHHH clunking clunking clunking. jacked the car up again. checked the subframe and cross member bolts, all but one were really really tight. tightened the one up and nothing, still clunking. also jacked up the control arm so it wasn't loaded and trying shaking the wheel, still no movement at all, everything is solid as a rock. i'm starting to think it's my motor mount. i'm still getting the weird highway vibration at like 80+ mph that comes and goes depending on who knows what. how can i check the motor and tranny mounts? when i was under there i couldn't even find them.

i just remembered, i checked my tie rods yesterday as well, and they were a little wiggly on the ball joint, doesn't seem right, i'm gonna jack the car up today and see if i have something i can figure out, tie rod ends are cheap so i think i'll just go ahead and change those, they look original, which is horrible considering i have 241k miles.

Update: ordered tie rods both inner and outer, mine are Horrible and the boots are leaky as hell. Pep boys sucks if they didn't notice how crappy they were when doing my alignment, most likely didn't even check.

Yeah PepBoys DOES suck. Were on the same page, running out of clunking options lol. I haven't attacked the tie rods yet but mine feel really solid, let us know how this goes.

Maybe when this is all figured out the title should be changed to "Front end noises and resolutions" then stickied, I think every possible option for the very common clunking has been gone over with details on the outcome nn this thread.

yea my tie rods are floppier than a flip flop, i'm thinking i should duct tape the crap out of them so the ball joint doesn't drop out lol. the new tie rods should come in next week.

replaced tie rods, get an alignment again, still clunky. already ordered new sway bar end links cz those are floppy as well, hopefully that will be the end of the clunks on my car. i had a rear clunk that was fixed with end links so we'll see if it's the same story on the front. once that is done, basically all suspension on my car is replaced.

EDIT: here's the rods before and after if anyone is interested, there was fluid everywhere on the passenger side, a giant pool of mystery liquid leaked out. it wasn't red which it should have been if it was PS fluid (ATF) and it wasn't thick enough for regular PS fluid, it was just like black water, and had no smell at all.

Yeah end links are super easy to throw on and can just use whatever from Autozone. You've been doing work!

yes i have, anything loose is getting replaced, which means motor and tranny mount which i really don't wanna do since i hear motor mounts are a pain. that's definitely gonna be in the summer.

I had a similar clunking sound in the back. Everything appeared to be tight, so I wound up changing the diff fluid with Red Line (75W90) Synthetic Gear Oil. It apparently had never been changed b4 and now the clunking sound is gone.

I had tie rod ends replaced this weekend with no change. So it MUST be the strut. Luckily I have a spare set of struts from my last SC with springs already installed so I guess If I get bored I'll swap the one out and see.

doubt it, coilovers are much more solid. The OEM strut has this pillow thing at the top like this and its all busted.

Check your heat shields, I had one that rusted out making noise like that. It kept tapping the exhaust... Also check the rear differential bushings. Idk if anyone has a part # for them but if so post it up. I know align sold them but I'd of anyone else.
