Default What would cause a rumble in my driveline?

I feel it from the middle to the rear of the car the loudest, but it causes everything to vibrate and roar. It pops up at 4-6mph, 28-39mph (the worst here), and a lighter rumble at 62-75mph.

I have replaced my transmission mount and center driveshaft bearing. They helped other vibrations but haven't gotten rid of this main one, which makes for a truly terrible experience.

One thing to note is that the left-side rear-view mirror vibrates visibly more than on the right. I'm not sure if that's actually relevant or just a byproduct of having the vibrating steering column being LHD.

I lifted the rear-end of the car on jackstands and held the accelerator with the traction control off, and the vibration persists.

U-joints maybe?
I had that same sound on my old ranger, ended up having to do the u-joint bearings.

I'm about to do just that.

Replaced the center driveshaft bearing, and it looks like my old one was in decent condition. Vibration remains. Had my guys look under it as it was on a lift at 35mph and all looks well and the vibration isn't really audible underneath the car.

Driveshaft bearing and transmission mounts are new.

Could be the bearing in the trans tail housing. A friend of mine had a Supra, his went out on him while he was in another state. He had a vibration and a rumbling noise a few months before it went. Just a thought and hope you figure it out.

Would this be inside of the black cylinder of which the the front driveshaft goes inside?

on my friends Supra that went out, it was inside the part where the drive shaft goes in the trans. After the old trans was replaced with a manual. Grab your driveshaft where it goes in the trans and see if you can move the yoke up and down and side to side. It should move very little.

Well.

So driveshaft 1 was blown due to a bad center bearing (or so I thought). Driveshaft 2 was pulled from some junkyard SC.

Driveshaft 2 is the one talked about on this thread. I suspect bad U-joints because we pulled it out and they were notchy.

So I sent driveshaft 1 in to get rebuilt. Came back with new U-joints, new center bearing, and some weights welded on. Installed it, and it's just as bad as it was before. I don't know what's wrong. Either it wasn't balanced right, or something else is off. I'm dumbfounded. Sending it back in. Driveshaft 2 is back on.

I just purchased another. Driveshaft 3. Came out of a parted out car in Orlando. Shoutout to SCFactory on eBay for that, I know him personally.

This weekend we'll try putting that in and see if my problems go away.

Thought I had driveline vibrations before on other cars, ended up being bad tires.

We had the car lifted when doing these tests, and the (not?) re-built driveshaft was very clearly violently shaking. And all of this was to a degree that far surpasses what bad tires could do.

Does anyone know if the A340's tail house extension is serviceable? I'm looking parts up and can't find much.

I don't know if it is or not. The only thing I can think of is to call a trans shop and ask them. And my friends Supra was a '85 model.

Alright then. Luckily I have a spare A340 that I could have the shop swap. Blah.
