Default A/C Only Cold On Max AC?

So I put a new stereo in my 1998 SC400 last night and now my a/c only blows cold on MAX Cold, if I put it on any other setting it is blowing heat? I am next to positive I plugged every thing back in. Also half way to work it stopped blowing cold and the A/C light started blinking, so I just cut it off and back on again and it started working again, but still only blowing cold on cold only setting? Obviously I am going to take it back apart and make sure I didn't miss anything but, anybody else had this issue?

my guess is bad compressor, that's what i found from a little google search. you can read climate control codes like this:

From Lextreme website

1) Simultaneously press and hold AUTO and recirculated air
switches. See Fig. 2. Turn ignition on. All indicators will flash 4
times, at one-second intervals. Tone will sound when indicators flash.
2) A/C system will enter self-diagnostic mode. To end
indicator check, press and release OFF switch. Read codes at
temperature display.
3) If trouble code is displayed, proceed to appropriate
trouble shooting procedure. See DIAGNOSTIC CODE IDENTIFICATION table.
Codes are displayed in ascending order. To slow rate at which codes
are displayed, press fresh air button to change display to step
operation. Each time fresh air button is pressed, display changes by
one step.
4) If tone sounds as code is displayed, problem currently
exists. If tone does not sound as code is displayed, problem occurred
in past and does not presently exist.
Code Diagnosis
00 ................................................ Normal
11 (1) ............. In-Vehicle Temperature Sensor Circuit
12 (2) ................ Ambient Temperature Sensor Circuit
13 ................. Evaporator Temperature Sensor Circuit
14 .................... Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit
21 (3) .............................. Solar Sensor Circuit
22 (4) .................... Compressor Lock Sensor Circuit
23 (4) ........................... Pressure Switch Circuit
31 .................. Air Mix Door Position Sensor Circuit
32 ................ Air Inlet Door Position Sensor Circuit
33 ............... Air Outlet Door Position Sensor Circuit
41 ....................... Air Mix Door Servomotor Circuit
42 ..................... Air Inlet Door Servomotor Circuit
43 .................... Air Outlet Door Servomotor Circuit
(1) - If in-vehicle temperature is -4 F (-20 C) or less,
Code 11 may set even though system is normal.
(2) - If outside air temperature is -58 F (-50 C) or less,
Code 12 may occur set though system is normal.
(3) - If testing is done in a dark area, Code 21 may set
even though system is normal. Shine a light at solar
sensor and recheck codes.
(4) - Malfunction is current. Code is not stored in memory.

ACTUATOR CHECK
1) Perform step 1) of RETRIEVING CODES. When system enters
self-diagnostic mode, press recirculated air button. Each mode door,
motor, and relay will operate at one-second intervals. Press fresh air
button to display codes one at a time, and perform step-by-step
actuator check.
2) Check airflow and temperature by hand. Tone will sound
each time display code changes. Each display code is associated with a
system operating condition. See Fig. 3 or 4. Press OFF button to
cancel actuator check mode.

Default Max cold air only

I had the same problem with just max cold or max heat on any other setting. AC was giving a 11 code. Did not have the flashing a/c light like you and it ran w/o cutting off.

After messing with my radio installation I found a disconnected wire to the left of the radio where the cabin temp sensor is. Connected it back up to the sensor and everything works as it should.

Good luck.

You guys rock! Thank you so much for all of that input. I am really hoping its the wire you were speaking of. Is it one single wire, and where was it connected too? I hope it will be obvious when I take my radio back out.

Default Max air/heat

"... Is it one single wire, and where was it connected too?"

It is a single wire (yellow/orange if I remember) with a connector & fairly short. Location was just above the square sensor cover on the inside of the lower dash. If that is your problem you will have a loose wire and a prong on the back of the sensor to connect it to.

So I'm getting all kinds of codes, but I just noticed that it says -22 on my outside temp display. I just had my front bumper painted and there is paint on it, but it's still hooked up. Anybody else had this happen after paint?

So I took the ambient air temp sensor off, and kept letting it soak in paint thinner, and then wiping it off. Put it back on and it still said -22 on the outside temp display, so I ordered a new one and even paid extra for next day shipping. Then I went to go to a party last night, and it started working fine! Too late to cancel the order, so I guess I will just have an extra one.
