Default Soarer r154 tripod swap with soarer front drivevshaft..hitting on cup

here are my specs...

Aristo 2JZGTE
Soarer r154 tripod
Soarer r154 front shaft with SC300 rear shaft
Stock SC300 rear diff

I found this other post that seems to be similar to what I am experiencing...https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...-my-trans.html

So I completing my tripod soarer r154 swap and noticed upon installing driveshaft that it is hitting on the cup/dustshield on the back of transmission when I spin the driveshaft...Could this be an issue or not? (The cup is not bent or mishaped at all)

Could I cut down the cup by say a 1/2 inch....so it wouldnt hit?

I replaced my stock w58 front shaft with the soarer r154 front shaft...and swapped over carrier bearing.

The driveshaft also is all the way in on transmission....and it was very difficult to get in...could this cause binding issues?

All the holes for mounting carrier bearing are lined up perfect and same for crossmember.

SC300 W58 front shaft (TOP) and Soarer r154 front shaft (BOTTOM)...the soarer r154 appears to be a little bit longer...

Soarer r154 front shaft (LEFT) and SC300 w58 front shaft (RIGHT)

Here is the installed pics and closeup of what I mentioned above...only need about 1-2mm more of clearance and it wont hit on the cup..could it be that the driveshaft is to far in the back of transmission

probably at least 5mm to clear that whole U-joint. IF that front shaft was originally mated with that R154 then it's your shaft that needs to back out a bit ..

Omar can you comment?

either your second half or that front half part of the driveshaft needs to be cut / trimmed a bit to move that thing backwards and clear that shield

After taking measurements

Soarer r154 front shaft = 25 in
SC300 w58 front shaft = 24 3/4 in
MKIII front shaft = 24 3/4 in (thanks for the measurement Gerry)

The soarer front shaft is 1/4 to long....

So my options are to take it to a driveshaft shop and have it cut down or to try and source a MKIII front shaft

I had the same issue with my MK3 R154 swapped with an MKIII R154 SC front shaft. The metal protective cup on the back of the R154 was hitting so badly it was mangled and had to be removed. I still haven't replaced it. Probably should order one.

I at first assumed that my original SC300 carrier bearing might have been bad... but this wasn't the case.

No issues any longer without the cup but it I also wish I knew why this happened.

Isn't the shield / cup used to prevent splashes of water getting into the end of that driveshaft / transmission to prevent corrosion / rusts ?

Pretty sure there was a good reason why Toyota installed that shield ./ cup .

I figured out the issue was a combination of a few things....the rubber flange on diff didnt get seated properly in the holes....I also did trim about a 1/4 in off the cap/dustshield....

It now spins freely without any contact or binding....

I had the same issue. Would have sworn it was perfectly straight.

It wasn't.
Took it off and stood it up on the table and watched it rock back and forth. It might notnhave been bent much but it definitely was.

I havne't had mine back on in almost 3 years.

Ryan,

Sorry for the late reply..Just like I was asking you yesterday if the dust shield was bent..in my opinion it looks like it was bent. That driveshaft is a soarer driveshaft not MK3, MK3 driveshaft is bigger in diameter and a little short.

Do me a favor, pop the dust shield cap off and install the driveshaft, Ill order you a brand new dust shield and mail it to you.
I used this driveshaft on my MK3 r154 without the dust shield, because the first driveshaft I had on the you bought from me had a bad U joint on the Front half shaft..

Let me know how it goes.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I could imagine if you had a bad u joint on the front shaft it would bend the cup/dustshield

Thanks Omar I will send you a PM with my address..
