Default The "Ultimate" Removable Front Plate Thread (Update)

Well guys, come to find out the ultimate didn't work out very well. I took the car to Austin and when I got there the plate was hanging by a thread. I have now found the new ultimate however and it's working great. Bought the Sto-N-Sho from Summit racing and installed. It works fantastic and will not come off. The one I got for my Lexus is the SNS57.
Here's pics: Damn I need a new bumper cover

Ok guys,

Like a lot of you I hate having to have a front plate. Living in Texas they will pull a car over like mine in an instant without one. Having my car at shows there was no way I was mounting a permanent plate. I believe I found the remedy. I bought a plate frame from the following company: http://www.d-splayplate.com/

I've used it numerous times with just the two suction cups but decided to modify it a little for even more support. On the bottom I added a ABS brace with one of there extra suction cups they send. Now the damn thing is like glue. I have driven it in the rain and had on the car for multiple days without issue. Best part is you hit the release tabs on the three suction cups and it pops right off. Hope this helps the guys that like having a removable plate.

I'd be nervous about it popping off as the suction cups age... As an alternative idea, what if you were to do two permanent mounting arms where the added suction cup attaches inside the grille, on nylon bushing pivots. That way, they could be rotated out of sight at shows when the license plate is off, or they could be rotated forward to attach the plate to with some wing nuts. With two pivot points attached to the plate, it should hold solid for driving.

When I picked up my RX F sport, new, the morons at the dealership had already drilled four holes into the front bumper for their stupid dealership advertising plate. When I got my MDX (again new) I was adamant that they NOT install a front license place bracket. $5 at Home Depot and I had rigged up a holder that screwed into the front bumper about where the bottom suction cup is on your setup. The holes are completely hidden if I need/want to take the license plate off while saving the visible part of the bumper from having unnecessary holes in it.

I only leave it on when I'm driving the car to a meet or home. It will be years before those suction cups wear out at that rate. My car only gets about 1,000 miles a year on it and never in the rain so not an issue for me. This is by no means a permanent mount. I actually made a bracket that bolted underneath where the third suction cup was. I just got tired of screwing it on an off. Suctions cups take ten seconds.

That's pretty cool. Much cleaner than zip ties.

I've always wanted one of these: www.hidetheplate.com
Flip the plate out when parked because in CA meter maids will ticket for no front plate.

Rare earth magnets behind the bumper and on the plate housing with felt on them, no scratchy no falling off! But they have to be rare earth, you moms kitchen magnets wont cut it.

Great idea, did you have to remove the bumper to install the new bracket?
