Default 95 SC Battery Problems?

Hi Guys,

I recently had issues with my SC400 starting. I am looking to sell but cannot if the car does not start without a jump. We thought it was because of exposed wiring in the driver side door where the loom runs parallel with the hinge. After Re-wiring the door leading into the steering column we are still having this issues. The battery is about 3 years old but has not been driven with much. In fact, the only thing that it has done is be charged and then left to sit where it is completely depleted. Do you think the cell is shot? This has been very frustrating considering it is the only thing keeping me from posting it for sale.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I apologize if there is already a thread for this. If so, please direct me to it and I will happily re-direct my inquiry.

Most Auto parts stores(such as auto zone) offer free battery testing,or you can buy your own tester. Another possible problem could be the contacts in your starter, a kit costs about 20$ for that.

I should have included that I actually just took it to Autozone last weekend and it tested OK. Before I was able to drive it there (about 6 miles away) I had to charge it with a jump for about 10 minutes. The test also said the alternator was good so I did not want to buy $100.00 battery if they told me it was good.

These cars pull power constantly because of the anti-theft system, because of all the electronics in my 96 SC 400 my car has a huge battery that if I remember correctly has like 850 cold cranking amps. If your battery is under sized your car could just be pulling it down as it is not big enough. Also if it has set alot you may need to check all your grounding wires as they could have corrosion on them which would create resistance in the starting system. you live in salt country.

Do you have any aftermarket electrical components such as an aftermarket subs, speakers, or headunit? Your problem can be as simple as a loose connection or a faulty part

PJS, no aftermarket components although when we had the driver door and steering colum rewired, we saw that there had been work done to it before...rather shotty if our opinion as well as the technicians. The driver side window stopped rolling down via the control and now the truck release does not work from inside the car

Rambler, From what we saw there was no corrosion even though the streets in Chicago suburbs do become your clear coats worst nightmare. I will also include that I purchased the battery at Walmart who also installed it. Worst auto department I have EVER been in so I would not be surprised if the battery is the wrong grade.

Your inside trunk release could simply be your valet lock got pushed and if you don't have the valet key to unlock it there was just a thread & good video on how to fix that on here. Turns out that was what was wrong with mine. Maybe some of these other guys will pick up on this & we can get your problem solved.
