Weridest discovery about my door locks

Short story : My car battery die and couldn't unlock/lock with the key lock from my doors.

Ever since, I change the battery and car is up and running again. The door locks works perfectly fine. When I disconnect the battery, it goes back to the old situation. I don't know if this is for other years or not, but my car is 98.

Any thoughts? besides don't let your car battery die

Do you have the master key? some of those newer keys talk to the ecu when unlocking the doors, so if no power I am not sure you can even open them that way. maybe there is some kind of secret way to open then.
