Another gauge cluster thread...
Hey guys,
I'm new to Club Lexus, but not to the SC300. I just purchased another sc300 (92) with a single turbo 1jz swap. My concern is that the gauges don't function...at all with the exception of lighting up.
The build was very well done so I assume the resistor was modified correctly for the temp and rpm, but I don't even get a speed reading.
The car did sit so I guess they could have "froze" but I am unsure. I'm okay with buying a new cluster, but want to avoid having the same issue with the new one. What should I be looking for, and do I have to get an Automatic gauge cluster for my AT? I'll be going manual in the future and would like to avoid buying another one later.
For the record I did search, but my problem seems slightly different so I wanted to be sure.

I am sure you have pulled the cluster to see if the connections are tightly installed.
Check to see if the resistor mod was done for the tach. As far as the others, the motors might be bad, bit after you say all the gauges doesn't work, I think something is not plugged in and has been tampered with.
Does the swap look good, or just thrown together to get it to run?

All connectors look good and there are some back lights working so I assume it's the motor. I guess I'll look for a new one.
Can I use a manual cluster on a 1jz auto?
The swap was done extremely well and I don't think any corners were cut. I know it's taboo when dealing with used cars but I actually believe him when he says they worked before the car sat for a year or two.
