Default 2000 SC 400 - NO traction control - is that rare?

My 2000 SC 400, which I have owned for 2 years now, does not have traction control. Is this rare? I know that traction control was an option, but I thought that almost all of the later SC 400's had it; perhaps I am wrong on that. I am glad that the car has no traction control; it is more fun to drive without it. But is this rare? Anyone have a rough estimate of the percentage of the later (98-00) SC 400's that came with/without traction control?

Neither of my 99's had it. At least it didnt come in the form on a TRAC button and system like the pre-vvti's did. Instead it has a Snow button which is sorta like traction control I guess?

My 93 manual has no traction control (no manuals had it, curiously). But a last-year SC400 without it is an odd find. Probably rare.

TRAC in the SC is a really good system (especially for the time), actively taps brakes when it loses traction even at speed (ie. tested at 80 km/h on a frozen lake with patches of snow). You can turn it off easily if you ever wanted to as well.

Snow mode pretty much desensitizes your accelerator, and shifts sooner.

Traction + Heated seats were a part of a winter package. Quite a few SC's don't have it.

My 96 doesn't have the heated seats or the traction control...but I do wonder what changes when you toggle the "ECT" from normal to power. Does it just change how aggressively it shifts RPM wise?

Something I've wanted to do is add the factory TRAC system my 5-speed. I'd imagine it's pretty involved as to wiring. Hardware probably isn't.

My 92 has traction and heated seats... never knew it was rare to find one like that. But yeah, I would expect most late models to be factory equipped with traction control, but I guess you have a good find!

Are the sc easy to loose control that its desirable to add it?
Have you looked into aftermarket tc system that taps into the abs wheel sensors

Not in dry weather but in rainy conditions an LSD equipped car with some suspension work can on occasion lose traction where you didn't intend it to. The more I've driven my SC I've avoided such incidents, which were only a couple in the past. You just learn how to feel the car out the old fashioned way. Choice of tires have a big role in this too. I first used BFGoodrich KDW2's which had dangerously poor rain traction. Since switching to BFGoodrich Comp2's there is considerably improved wet grip. Breaking loose with the Comp2's requires very deliberate throttle and steering input.

Please note: my car isn't turbocharged.

With the same suspension work and limited slip plus a turbocharger of any size and I do think it would be ideal to have a traction control system. All Soarers and MKIV Supra Turbos had it.

The aftermarket system I'm most familiar with is the RaceLogic ECU which plugs into the Supra TT's factory TC ECU location.

Traction control and heated seats came as a package, generally for SC's sold in states where it snows.
