Possibly New SC Owner!
Hey guys, I currently own a 2002 Subaru WRX which is getting a STI engine swap at the moment. So while that car is down, I was looking at getting a SC300 for a second car to get around in and eventually have some fun with it. I'm actually going to be checking one out tomorrow and would like to get some of your opinions on it. It is a 1992 with original 5 speed and the previous owner has receipts for all the maintenance performed on it. Anything that is common I should look out for in these cars? Here is some more info on the car
184,100 miles
5-speed Manual
3.0L I6 2JZ-GE
2nd owner
All stock, never modified
Clean title
Purchased 2010 from first owner at 161,367 miles
Previous owner had engine replaced at 159,375 miles by C&T automotive
That service included
-timing belt and components
-front and rear engine seals
-new thermostat and coolant
-new clutch, machined flywheel
-new spark plugs
Battery replaced around 159k
Oil changed every 3,000 miles since then and checked carefully.
Both window regulators replaced in 2011
02 sensor replaced at 162,546
New tires at 172,590
15,000 mile service at C&T automotive at 173,970
A/C retrofit 07/2012 to R134 by C&T ($600)
-new reciever-dryer
-retrofit kit
-new refridgerant
Fan clutch replaced at 180,000
Stack of reciepts of all recent maintenance and lots from previous owner
The bad:
Tape deck non functional
Faded paint on hood, roof and trunk
Large dent on driver side door (scraped in a parking lot)
Driver side door panel squeaks
Power steering pump should be replaced, leaks (still fully functional)
And here is a picture of my current toy haha

Love the WRX man! The SC sounds like a good car but the red flag to me is why did they have to replace the engine? Did it just get rebuilt or did it get replaced? To me that sounds like it may have been abused to need an entire new engine. But as long as everything checks out ok then you should go for it, SC's are great cars and with the way your WRX looks you obviously have good taste in modding cars. Good luck man!

Thanks for the compliment on the WRX! The original owner replaced the engine with a lower mileage one because of rod knock. The guy I am planning to buy it from is the 2nd owner. I'm hoping that everything will check out good. I originally was looking for a Civic or Miata for a daily. But now i'm just stuck on the SC300! haha
I recommend a Miata as a DD for you. My Dad has 1 2000 MX-5 SE and a 99 MX-5 on tokicos as his two DD's and they have been the most reliable vehicles he has every owned. He said that.
Good find...hope you get it!

I'm not planning to do anything crazy with the SC, just wheels and PBM coilovers. The plan is to keep the engine stock and just maintain it.
