Default My key wont unlock my trunk!

Hey CL! I only have one key to my SC and I locked the trunk button from the inside with it before and it unlocks no problem, now its locked and the key wont unlock it(the lock between the trunk button and the gas button) I tried unlocking it from the back of the car and the key did nothing their to, it also does not work for the glove box anymore. It unlocks the doors still but its has more of a struggle fitting inside the lock, it still starts my car but has the same issue as the door, Is my key bad? Can I purchase a blank off eBay and get it t rather than spending $100+ on one at a dealership? How can I get in my trunk?

On a completely unrelated note, how do you disable the steering wheel auto adjust?

There's a button on the side of your steering wheel to the left that says "auto"

My trunk doesn't open from the button at all so messing with it the only way it opens is turn the key all the way then lift with might force.
Hope it helps , good luck !

My previous experiences I've seen with older vehicles (not specifically Lexus or SC's) that keys can become worn from repeated use in the door lock cylinders/ignition over the years. When that happens sometimes one side of key will be slightly more worn than the other and you may not realize it'll work to lock/unlock in one direction but not the other. Usually they don't just stop working, sliding the key in and out of the cylinder at slightly different angles and different amounts of pressure on the cylinder while trying to turn the key will get it to unlock/lock. Making a copy from your worn key will usually result in the new key not working %100. In those cases I'd have a new key (whether you buy it online or at the dealership) cut by the VIN instead of having it copied from the worn key. Hopefully you get this resolved.

Thanks for the responses! If I wanted to go the route of getting it cut with the VIN is their any other way than a dealership?

My experience during my 8 years with a Honda/Acura I don't believe anyone but the dealership would be able to look up a key code and cut it by VIN. The dealerships I've worked for wouldn't charge to simply cut a key for you (whether you buy from them or supply your own) or if they did it would be for a nominal fee similar to a hardware store.

Programming the key to start the vehicle if it has an immobilizer system (chipped key) would be a different story and I am not sure if that is the case with these vehicles.

Maybe someone can chime in on this....
I've read somewhere that Lexus will cut a set of keys (one set only) for that one specific vehicle as a courtesy to the owner, made known at the time of vehicle purchase, that includes reprogramming the ECU... and in the same article it stated that the dealership provides this service since LEXUS or the parent company pays the dealership.
I'm searching the web for this article at the moment.
