OP, that was a very generous quote from your insurance. With your car being stock, I would jump on that unless you're confident you can get more for your SC. Of course, if that were my car I would want to buy it back too..

You guys make me laugh! Exactly what I needed.

I have decided to negotiate with the insurance company to get a higher price. Like I said, I'm coming up with a number around $5800 and they are saying $4900. But hey, $900 is $900. The reason why our numbers are so different. . . .
There are only 2 sc300's for sale within a 100 mile radius of where I live. They "expanded" their search to encompass 150 miles instead. So now they have 4 cars.

I'm sorry, but 4 cars is hardly enough to take and accurate average to determine price for a car this rare.

I however, expanded my search. 1000 miles. 2000 miles. 3000 miles. Who cares. My car has 176,000 miles on it. Not 225,000. And to be fair not 67,000 either. I will be sharing these thoughts with my insurance company.

More to follow.

Oh yeah! I am TOTALLY going to buy it back for the $500. Probably sell it. Buy a new one but WHITE!

I have no idea why they would even give you 5k for your car, but I would have taken it, bought the car back, and another sc300, and then used any money left over to party like its 1999.

Not rare, a stock 21 year old car with 175,000 miles on it the ins is willing to give you 5 G's for........... and that price for a payout is huge. Take it and run.

$5k give or take for a stock SC with that mileage is not bad. It's getting your insurance company to recognize permanent performance modifications you've invested on top of whatever the "market" value is that's difficult. The thing that gets me is how they base their valuation on SC's for sale only in a small search area near your zip code. It varies greatly by area and by what happens to be on the market at any given time and they know it.

Anyway, good luck!

The last car i had was a '02 Mustang GT with '03 Cobra IRS swap, Cobra front brakes, a lot a suspension work up front, i just bought a brand new intake manifold from Ford since mine cracked, replaced it, then a week later the car got totaled due to my dumbass for cutting through a dark parking lot and hit a pole on the front passenger side at 15mph, insurance quickly totaled it and i was very up set since i did the irs swap and other stuff like 4 months before that happened. I stayed in doors for like a month till i finally decided to search for another car. Today i wish i bought that car back and swap parts to another mustang, but they wanted to much on buy back.

Default Update

Today we settled on a price of $5200. After reading everyone's comments I think I was afraid to ask for more. Didn't want them looking too closely to the numbers again.

So when he asked me what number I thought was fair and would be happy with,
I blurted out, "$5200", with out even thinking. He said that was a reasonable number he could accommodate.

YAY! Success! Victory is mine! Although it may be just a small one. But hey, now the $500 to buy my car back is more like $300. Or however you wanna look at it.

I'm think I'm more happy that I managed to successfully negotiate with the insurance company. Plus, Im making out like a bandit!

He never actually even saw all the other cars I found for sale. Guess he didn't need to see them. Oh well. Good to know for future reference.

At this point I am looking for a new to me SC. Hoping for a nice one, white, with low miles and nice rims.

Thanks again for the great advice.
