Default Chugging Gasoline

I recently did the BFI mod to my 96 sc400. I was under the assumption that this was supposed to improve gas mileage slightly. I seem to be getting considerably worse gas mileage than before!

Whenever I start up my car, I can smell gasoline from the exhaust for a little while. I checked for any leaks underneath the car and I can't find any. Anybody know what the problem could be? Could I have possibly screwed up the MAF sensor and now my car thinks to dump more gasoline into the engine than it actually needs?

I did it and no problems. MAF would be my starting point.

If you didn't already do it, you might try pulling the green 30 amp fuse in the engine bay fuse block to reset the ECM. Let it idle for 10 minutes and shut it off, then restart it and take it for a short drive and then shut it off, restart and let it idle for 5 minutes and shut it off.
That should recalibrate the system to the airflow.
