Has anyone considered Plasti Dipping their car? If so, what color? If you have any pictures of the final product, that would be awesome.

agreed, please search, its been done many times before. on another note, my friend did it to his car, but he dident do a very good job, he put it on too thin so when he tried to remove it he scratched the hell out of his car. He was also affriaed to wash it because it would get dirty and he dident want to scrub the plasti dip in fear of it coming off and making his car look patchy. i would only recommend plasti dipping your car if your paint needs to be redone anyways.

Ive been considering it, but not with the rattle can.

dipyourcar.com has a kit, and they pre-thin so it can be sprayed with the included sprayer. Toss up is, go with their procar kit, or spend the extra $150+/- and go with a vinyl wrap.

The plastidip on my truck has degraded rather fast being exposed to the elements all the time, and I am not looking forward to peeling it off. that being said it looked great for a few months... I would have been better off rolling on some paint.. lol.
They do have new colors though and they can mix in gloss but the old matte plati-dip got old real fast. non-car people just think you rattle canned it most of the time and don't even know what plasti-dip is.

the only time ive ever consider this is if I just want to see what my car looks like in a certain color. You're better off using the money to buy gallons of paint and finding someone with a paint kit and compressor and painting the car your self.

Im still considering it, cause if done correctly (and I have seen a few up close already) you cant tell if its plasti-dip or vinyl. Cause if it came out as bad as every one claims, you think they would be dipping Vipers, Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, AM's, etc, etc...?

Major problem with plastidip I have seen, is that the job is rushed, surface not prepped correctly, or trying to spray from the small rattle cans. Also it takes several coats (5-7 coats) of plasti-dip to get the surface smooth and even.

I have painted cars in the past with "real" staged paint, and although its not hard, its much more time consuming and costly, not to mention if you mess something up, its much harder to fix the error than a vinyl wrap or plasti-dip. Not to mention, dipyourcar.com has their full kit for under $400 with pre-thinned dip, surface prep materials, and the sprayer.

For those of us on a budget, especially if you just rolled your fenders and chipped the paint, I dont see whats wrong with dipping if you take your time and be meticulous about the process. I mean its cheaper than vinyl, doesnt need 2 people to apply it, and if you dont like it (and you applied it properly) just peel it off and clean the surface and redo it. Better than 12 cans of Rustoleum flat black right?

this is not a proper way to paint your car, plasti dip wont last , its something a teenager would do.

You can paint your own car with a proper finish for $200 or $300 if your on a budget.

Plasti-dipping on small parts such as emblems, lights, chrome trim, and even some wheels (temporary for looks)might be ok but not so much on the whole car. I just never got off too the look of it and like mentioned before it would peel or chip away in time.

If you decide to do it, don't go too thin or else it won't peel off easily and will be a huge pain to remove. the thicker the plastidip is, the easier it will come off.

i think its only worth it to plasti dip a car is when the car really looks like crap and the paint is in horrible condition. Also if painting the car would cost more than what the car is worth or if your not going to own the car for a long period of time.
