Chilton Lexus Manual?
I was at the local library when I came across this automotive manual, seeing as there isn't any haynes manuals for the sc300/400 I looked them up to my suprise there was a section for Lexuses and even a mkiv supra.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this manual.
I'm sure it'll help someone out there.

That's quite hilarious, those manuals. I mean come on, they have an ES300(basically a FWD Camry with a v6) in the same manual with a bunch of RWD cars that use inline six and v8 engines, and aren't all that related.
MR2/Paseo/Supra/Tercel . . . WTF MAN??? I mean one is mid-engined, one is RWD with the engine in front, and the other two are FWD econo-boxes. I could see the Paseo and Tercel in the same manual, since they are kind of related and might use the same engines and have similar engine bay layouts, but seriously what sort of good info are you going to get from a manual covering 4 totally different cars that's less than the width of a phone book.
Of course I will admit to buying a Chilton's manual for my 1993 Toyota truck for $15. I refused to pay $100+ for a factory service manual for a truck I only paid $650 for. Its for all 1989-96 "pickups", 4 Runners, T100 and Land Cruisers. I could see them lumping 4 Runners in with the pickups since they are VERY similar, but Land Cruisers are an entirely different breed of truck, so is the T100. Anyways on a very simple vehicle like that old 2wd truck, its a decent manual, but for something as complex as a Lexus, Supra or MR2, these Chilton/Haynes manuals are pretty worthless and might be good for lining a bird cage.
BTW, last car I owned was a 1998 Chevy Camaro Z28 with the v8. Bought a factory service manual for less than $20, its a 3 part book excluviely for 1998 Camaros and Firebirds, and about the width of two phone books. It irritates the hell out of me how factory service manuals for GM cars can be had for about $20 or less, yet for Toyotas they're always over $100, and I'm talking about used prices.

Actually this book was huge. Easily the width of two phone books and I thought it was just as useful as a Haynes manual which is what I've always used.
It was only clumped like that for the whole chapter, each model had its own section.
Seeing as though this was the first manual I've seen for Lexuses I have no basis for comparison but I'll try to find a OEM service manual to look at.

I have found that those Chilton and Haynes service guides are filled with little errors. Flipping through a Civic guide, I found that the spare tire was considered a jacking point, an engine mount was labeled as a crankshaft pulley, different models had the wrong engines labeled for them, and so on. I don't believe they're very good for someone with little mechanical experience.
But good find nonetheless. I never knew any type of material existed for our cars beyond the factory service manual.
