Default Do you have heat coming from your console? Here's why.

When you have your windows down or sunroof open do you feel your gear shifter get hot and feel heat coming from around the emergency brake?
Here's the culprit.

It's the rubber boot around the lower part of the shifter that's on the underside of the car. It is worn and has a gap in it allowing heat to be sucked up inside the car. The fix? Well that's up to you. You can order a new boot or find a fix yourself. If you replace the wole boot you'll have to remove the entire gear shift mechanism, which includes all this.

For now I just stuffed some insulation down around the lever. Did not completely solve the problem but is better for now until I can get the boot ordered and find the time to tear it all down again.

I noticed this tooo! I thought it was just me haha.
Since its getting cold out, I'll leave it as is so it can help and keep the cabin warm, but in spring I'll take a look at this.

This is the only bad thing of owning a sc in the summer if you live in area with warm climates.

I experienced it after 5speed swap test drive lol

Yep, we've been discussing ways to fix this since CL launched in 1998 (2001 for the new site) since it has always been a complaint of SC owners. If you'd like some helpful hints on solutions just search around at what others have done.

Yup.

I cut the hole too big and heat was pouring in.

And if your auto shifter wiggles back and forth, replace the little bushings around the bolt the lever pivots on. The bushings are very very cheap and available from Lexus. You can replace those while replacing the boot. I have to check to see if the boot is available still.
