Default 1999 SC400 Black on Black Project Car

Hey Everyone,

2 time SC400 owner here (currently have a '95) and have been looking to upgrade to a black on black '99. In my searches I came across an interesting branded rebuilt/salvage title project that is out of my league, although may be of some interest to those on this site. I have vetted the car with a Carfax & Autocheck, as well as an inspection at the Lexus dealership in Eugene, Oregon.

Carfax shows car was written off in Texas back in '02 (likely an accident). Rebuilt in California same year. Written off again in '11 (garage fire) that caused external body damage. Rebuilt in Oregon in '12.

To put the car into safe road worthy condition:

New tires & alignment
Fuel leaking issue diagnosis and fix

Mechanically thereafter what is required:

Front brakes
Muffler
Oil leaks - Gasket replacement
A/C recharge
Minor exterior/interior bulb replacements
Full tune-up
Rear sub might be blown

Aesthetics:

Replacement Bumper Cover (current one is warped)
Body work & full paint job
New Interior seat covers
Front fender well liners
Driver side marker light

Other notes:
Aftermarket head lights & tail lights
Aftermarket fiberglass fenders
SC430 Steering Wheel

The car was bought at auction by a young gentleman. I was able to find a before photo prior to his work.

So you can see he has done a bit of work already and has some money into it. He is asking 4k, although I'm thinking he is open to offers/negotiable. He has been pretty straightforward and accommodating to deal with. You can find the car in Eugene, Oregon Craigslist.

If anyone wants to see the CarFax/Autocheck and Dealer Inspection Report then PM me.

All I'm looking for in return is some karma to find a good deal on a well maintained black on black '99 with a clean title under 100k miles.

Good luck!

Why? I think it's a great opportunity for someone looking for a '99 project, or parts car. Forgive me for trying to be helpful and participate in the community.

I agree. Especially since this is a '99 SC400 VVT-i. How is this any different than someone getting a beat up 1973 Plymouth Satellite/GTX and deciding to restore or restomod it? This is how a lot of classic cars have been found before someone cleans them up.

Most definitely! At the very least with only 83k it would make a good parts car (if only I had a '99 already and the garage space)

Yeah, I agree, the asking price is a little high, although in talking to the guy, he's definitely open to offers, so someone serious should be able to take it away for a fair price.

Price is too high. I bought a black on black 99 for 5k. it was an 400 as well. You will put waaay more money in, then just being patient and finding one clean

That's a killer deal you got on that! Was yours a clean title and what were the k's? How did you find it? I guess I'll have to be patient for a deal like that.

I am kinda on the fence on this one...

If everyone wants a project car, sometimes you have to bite the bullet, sometimes you don't.. It is all in what the possible new owner sees in the future of the total built outcome. If the car overall runs very well and solid, I would offer him 3K cash money... To me that's not a bad investment, all the things you mentioned can be repaired or fixed by clicking the search button on here. Finding a black on black even in poor quality are getting harder and harder to find... JMO...

GL on your decision keep us posted on what you decided to do...
