I just did this lil mod, I 1st used plasti-dip but after it dried i wasn’t feeling it so i removed it. The next day i went ahead with the blackout tape route ... it looks amazing once finished especially on a black SC, i highly recommend it

I did mine. It looks better than it did, but the stuff seems to peel back off pretty easily. Would be nice if there was a way to spray something over the top to stop it from peeling back off so easily.
Suggestions: as mentioned above, either remove the tape while it's still wet or else be prepared to go around the whole thing with a blade to remove your tape.

Here is mine in vinyl. I completed this in about an hour using two 1/2" long stripes of oracal matte black wrapping film. It came out pretty nice but I had to overlap a few pieces around the round curves. Most car dealers do this when wrapping window trim so I made it look pretty factory. I know my 2008 Honda Fit and my old 2003 MazdaSpeed Protege both have window trims wrapped with matte vinyl.
Here's a close up of my custom vinyl pillar that I completed last year. It's still holding up very well.
