95 sc300 tilt steering
Okay I have search here and on google with no luck. My steering column will go in and out but will not go up and down. However you can not hear the motor on the tilt when trying to go up and down like you can when the gear is out of alignment. So im thinking the motor is done for. How do I change the motor? And where can I get one new for cheap? Or am I best to go to the junk yard in hopes of finding one that is in good working order?

Dude....same issues with me but mine goes in, out, up but not down. When im trying to move it down i can hear it go "errrrrrrrrrr" like the motor is trying but gives out after 3 seconds. Does that mean its off track?

Ok here goes.. Turn the wheel to the left about 1/4 turn, remove screw behind the wheel. Under neath the plastic steering column there are 2 screws, remove them. Pull apart the two plastic pieces that cover the steering column. Lay aside. On the left hand side of the column you will see three 8mm screws, and one 10mm underneath. The 8mm is holding a cover on. Remove these bolts and loosen the one 10mm underneath, just loosen. Lay plate the side. There is a 10mm bolt holding a plastic washer on that helps the steering move up and down. Remove this 10mm bolt. It might need a little tug. Once this 10mm bolt is removed, lay aside and then remove the plastic gear. You might want to use a paper clip or a small flat head screwdriver. Once you have it removed, find a washer that will go over the threaded part. This will make the plastic gear sit directly on the spinning teeth better. Regrease it, tighten it back up, reverse of install. Enjoy tilt again.

yours may just be out of alignment. click the link that the other guy posted above.
Mine goes in and out but not up and down. the motor makes no noise when trying to go up and down. I will take it apart sunday when Im off and see what the deal is. working 65+ hrs a week sucks. but it pays the bills so cant complain. Its also gonna pay for the GTE swap next spring
