depending on your sizes, the overall wheel diameter is probably going to be pretty similar to the factory wheels, and no, it's not going to make your car any faster. lol.
as for looks, it can look pretty nice IMO, and theres plenty of people who have ran/are running 17s.
theres a few staggered setups in here, and one running 17x9.5 all around MBs. do some research, learn what sizes you're after, and have fun.

^^ im pretty sure he is asking about 17" wheels with tires tht are overall smaller then the factory specs.
if u do this ur speedo will be inaccurate and, imo, ur car will look really weird with such a small setup. i think someone already did this but i cant remember the members name.

^^ yes I'm aware of exactly what he was asking. it's not like people arent running all sorts of varying stretched setups. anytime you put on an aftermarket set of wheels or tires, unless you calculate in order to stay close to factory specs, you end up changing the dynamics of your travel a little bit, but it's not the end of the world.
plenty of SC owners run anywhere from 15-20 inch wheels with varying tire sizes. there is a certain math as to what's going to get you slightly better mileage, but all in all you're not going to notice much. 17s are a perfectly normal size to run on these cars, stretch or no stretch,.

I'm running 17x8, with 225/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza, all around.
The overall diameter is smaller than the 225/55/16 that came stock. A more accurate tire size would be a 245/45/17. The 225's I have on there now look a little stretched, but not too bad. They would look perfect if the car was slammed, but I'm only running TT springs so it's not enough of a drop. I think I'll make the switch to 245's soon...

How? Smaller wheels means less work, and faster rotation ...
Exactly.
Got a pic(s)?

I used to run 17s with low pros and i think they looked fine. In this pic i was running 17x8.5 / 215_45s and 17x9.5 / 235 45s. Then i ended up running 17x11 / 255 45s in the rear. I say there low pros, but im going to be running 215 35s on my 18x10s next which are seriously low pros. lol
What size rim / tires are you looking at getting?
With the 17x11s.

I'm running 17x8 215/45, 17x9 235/45. It has a good amount of tire all the way around (i don't really like stretched), but yeah, it's smaller than stock. Yesterday i drove by one of those police radar things that tells you your speed, i was going 27 when my speedo said 30.

So in other words, I have to lower the car in order to achieve that stance :\
I was hoping I could keep my stock suspension (for now), and still have that same look, 'cus I hate the gap between the tire and wheel-well. Also, I was hoping that having the thinner tires would actually drop the height of the car an inch or so...
Eh, I guess there are no shortcuts, haha.
Coilovers it is then.
So your car got "slower" with the smaller wheels??

Yes you would have to lower it to look like that, im on Stance Coilovers btw.
My dad back home has IS300 wheels on his 95 SC300 and there 17s with 215 45s and they look better than stock imo, and they dont mess up the spedo.
Heres a pic of my dads SC, this is what i think your asking for.

As far as seat of the pants feel i went from a 275/35/19 to a 225/30/17 (i believe that was the size) just for a couple weeks and i DEFINETLY felt the difference in acceleration at any speed wether from a roll or dig.
