Default Question regarding TT wheels.

I've got TT wheels on my 92 SC400. I ran the same wheels on both my 98 and 2000 SC300's. I've had the same issue on all three cars.
The issue is tire feathering on the front. My suspension has no issues, bushings, balljoints are fine. Alignment is spot on but without fail the front tires will always start to feather and get noisy going down the road. It usually take about 10-12k miles before they start. I've tried different quality of tires also and no change. The more expensive tires do it also. The rears just wear down fast in the middle, which I expect being such a wide tire.

Anyone else running TT wheels have this issue? Is it just because they can't be rotated?

I think it's the suspension design, I noticed this with even my stock wheels and tires, the outer edge started feathering on the fronts. Maybe if you altered the alignment for more toe out? Also, the weight over the front wheels of the car could be a factor. I figure once I lower my car, that will no longer be an issue.. lol

Still sounds like an incorrect toe setting with regards to the TT wheels.

I have the same problem even after installing new bushings, struts, and shocks. I also have 19's. I just think it is something in the alignment side of the car not the TT rims. I am sure others will chime in..

Ditto that. I replaced all the above on my 98 and it still did it.
A Lexus history report on my 400 revealed control arms were replaced by the dealer at 177k miles. Car drives straight as an arrow also. It's an irritating problem.

Uhh ohh, I don't want to hear about this. I just installed my TT wheels about a month and a half ago with YOKO S. Drives. I'll make sure to keep a look out with this.

Have you tried getting close to the "Lance" alignment specs for MKIV's? I tried that a couple of weeks ago. Supposedly it helps with tire wear if you have TT staggered rims and the equivalent of a TT suspension.

The problem is that his is happening on the front wheels, the Lance alignment adjusts for the rear. But perhaps the same principle applies. And I was right about it having to do with the toe.

Looks like since the inner part of the ops tires are feathering up front, maybe adjusting the toe inwards would help.

When i put new control arms on my car, the whole front raised a 1/2 inch after settling.
I dont have any inner wear but my car is toed out 1*. I rub somewhat.

So this problem is only with the front tires then right?(Concerned tt wheel owner here). I haven't gotten tires for my wheels yet. But forking over 500 for a new set of rubber, only to get pre-mature tire wear is alarming!

O.p. Are you running 275's in the rear?. So, so far the solution is?
-new lower control arms?
-adjust the front wheel specs to mk4 supra and the back to sc400?

Since owning a set of TT wheels I've put new tires on every year. I tried more expensive tires and they wore faster! When the front starts to feather they make an awful sound that I can't stand. So when I replace the tires they had a lot of tread on them but were noisy as hell. The rear tires I typically get 35k miles out of them before they're bald in the center. It's a wide tire and I expected it. I drive a lot and road trip as often as I can. I've thought of going back to stock wheels but the car looks so damn good with those on it.

megamax: I've got 275/40 ZR17's on the rear.

Also, my LCA's on all the cars I've had these wheels on have been good. Same problem on every car.

I do have some tire noise, but I was thinking it was just my tire design. I will check for feathering today.
